1. After China announced standardized names for 15 places in the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, India reacted strongly, saying that the state is an integral part of India and China does not have the right to rename places.

2. Indian journalist Ananth Krishnan said:. China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs in a statement puts out what it calls ‘standardised’ names for 15 places in Arunachal Pradesh, to be used on Chinese maps. This follows 6 places renamed in 2017, and ahead of a new border law coming into effect on Jan 1, 2022.

3. India considers that the legal national border with China is along the McMahon Line in Arunachal Pradesh, which was decided by representatives of Tibet and British India as part of the 1914 Simla Convention. However, China does not recognize this, saying that Tibet was not independent of China and there was no Chinese representative at the convention.

4. Cabinet has approved MoU between India and Nepal for construction of a bridge over Mahakali River at Dharchula in India and Dharchula in Nepal.

5. The External Affairs Ministry said, India has taken up with Sri Lanka the detention of 68 fishermen and ten boats that had been taken into custody by the Sri Lankan authorities last month.

6. Hong Kong (China) on Wednesday announced a two-week ban on incoming flights from eight countries, including India, as the world continues to witness a surge in the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

7. Cabinet has approved the signing of MoU between India and Turkmenistan on Cooperation in the field of Disaster Management.

1. Pakistan to get its first woman Supreme Court judge – Justice Ayesha Malik. The Judicial Commission of Pakistan has paved the way for Justice Ayesha Malik of the Lahore High Court to be elevated as the country’s first woman Supreme Court judge.

2. Five global nuclear powers, the United States, China, Russia, Britain and France pledged to prevent atomic weapons spreading and to avoid nuclear conflict, in a rare joint statement setting aside rising West-East tensions to reaffirm a goal of a nuke-free world.
