1. Foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla on Tuesday called on Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and discussed ways to further advance the comprehensive bilateral partnership at all levels and reaffirmed the strong ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

2. High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami handed over two life support ambulances to Bangladesh on 05 Oct. These ambulances are part of the overall programme of supply of 109 life support ambulances announced by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi during his state visit to Bangladesh in March this year.

1. The Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to scientists from Japan, Germany and Italy. Syukuro Manabe, 90, and Klaus Hasselmann, 89, were cited for their work in the physical modelling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming .

2. Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum’s likely appointment as the new ISI chief, outgoing DG Lt Gen Faiz Hameed has emerged as a top contender for the post of Pakistan Army chief.

3. North Korea has continued to pursue its weapons development programmes despite facing a worsening economic situation due to its self-imposed coronavirus blockade.

4. Malaysia has summoned the Chinese ambassador to Kuala Lumpur to express its protest against the encroachment into its waters by Beijing’s vessels.

5. French clergy have sexually abused more than 200,000 children over the past 70 years, a major investigation released on Tuesday found, and its authors accused the Catholic Church of turning a blind eye for too long and urged it to reform.

6. New Japanese PM Fumio Kishida calls for Parliamentary polls on October 31. He said that the elections will make it clear whether people trust him to carry out policies. Mr Kishida expressed a wish to implement large-scale Corona virus counter-measures and bold economic policies.

7. Russia successfully test-fires Zirkon hypersonic cruise missile from nuclear submarine for first time. Zircon would be capable of flying at nine times the speed of sound and have a range of 1,000 kilometres.
