Europe is once again at the epicenter of the Covid pandemic

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

1. The US set to lift all restrictions for fully vaccinated international travellers, including from India, from November 8 but they will have to show proof of a negative coronavirus test before boarding a flight to the country.

2. The govt has asked Pakistan to reconsider its decision to close its airspace to a Srinagar-Sharjah direct flight, noting that the issue had been raised via diplomatic channels.

3. The Chinese army’s acceleration of its training and fielding of heavy military equipment has prepared it for any escalation of border tensions with India and to support a “Taiwan contingency”, according to a new US defence department report.

4. India has strongly condemned the terror attack on a maternity hospital in a Shia-dominated area of Kabul on 02 Nov . At least 19 people were killed and 43 others were wounded in an attack on Afghanistan’s biggest military hospital in the capital Kabul.

5. India will be hosting the Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan on the 10th of November. The meeting will be at the NSA level and NSA Ajit Doval will chair it. Two earlier meetings in this format have been held in Iran in September 2018 and December 2019.

1. Europe is once again at the epicenter of the Covid pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned, as cases soar across the continent. At a press conference WHO Europe head Hans Kluge said the continent could see half a million more deaths by February. He blamed insufficient vaccine take-up for the rise.

2. ETHIOPIA , nine anti-government groups, including the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), have agreed to form an alliance against Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration. It comes as pressure mounts on Mr Abiy, with rebel forces making advances towards the capital.

3. Iran to resume Nuclear Deal talks with US and 5 other Nations in Vienna this month. Talks aimed at reviving the landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six other nations are to resume this month. Iran’s chief negotiator Ali Baqeri Kani in Twitter yesterday said Iran had agreed to start the negotiations aiming at the removal of unlawful and inhumane sanctions on 29 th November in Vienna.

4. Britain’s health regulators have approved the world’s first pill to treat cases of symptomatic COVID-19. Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said, the antiviral Lagevrio (molnupiravir) has been found to be safe and effective at reducing the risk of hospitalisation and death in people with mild to moderate COVID-19, who are at increased risk of developing severe disease.
