External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar spoke to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. During their conversation, they discussed the follow up of the Annual Summit and 2 plus 2 Meeting.

1. Security forces in Sudan have deployed across the capital, Khartoum, and other cities ahead of new demonstrations. Pro-democracy activists in Sudan announced fresh protests amid a deepening political crisis following the resignation of PM Abdalla Hamdok.

2. Indian-origin UK Army Captain becomes 1st woman of colour to trek solo to South Pole.
British Army Captain Harpreet Chandi has become the first woman of colour to complete a solo unsupported trek to the South Pole. The 32-year-old Indian-origin Sikh officer completed the 700-mile (around 1,130 km) trek in 40 days in temperatures of minus 50 degrees Celsius and wind speeds of around 60 mph. British Army’s Chief of the General Staff congratulated her.

3. Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf, 75, and Queen Silvia, 78, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. As per a statement released by the palace, both of them were fully vaccinated with three injections and currently have mild symptoms. Carl Gustaf became the head of state at the age of 27 and is the country’s longest-serving monarch.
