1. The Nobel Prizes 2022 for medicine or physiology was awarded to Swedish geneticist Svante Paabo. Svante Paabo was given the award “for his discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution”.
2. China withdraws its IAEA anti AUKUS resolution: At the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) general session in Vienna, China withdrew a draught resolution criticising the AUKUS alliance after determining that it would not be supported by a majority of the attendees.
3. Turkey’s annual inflation reached a new 24-year high of 83.45% in September.
4. Ukrainian forces have broken through Russia’s defences in the south of the country while expanding their rapid offensive in the east, seizing back more territory in areas annexed by Moscow and threatening supply lines for Russian troops.
5. The U.S. military said it killed a leader of the Islamist militant al-Shabaab group with an air strike in Somalia over the weekend, while the insurgents claimed responsibility for a new attack.
