Sam Bankman-Fried Convicted of Financial Fraud
The ex-FTX CEO has been found guilty by a jury of his peers, according to several reports on Thursday evening. The 31-year-old Sam Bankman-Fried was charged in December 2022, about a month after the exchange collapsed. Bankman-Fried had a sweeping set of allegations, as prosecutors accused him of orchestrating an extensive plan to mismanage billions of dollars in customer deposits entrusted to FTX.

1. An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck western Nepal on Friday night, resulting in a tragic toll of at least 69 deaths and over a dozen injuries.

The quake’s epicentre was in Nepal, about 251km from Lucknow.

2. Afghanistan’s Taliban-appointed acting Defence Minister Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid has criticized the Pakistan caretaker government’s treatment of Afghan refugees. He said the decision to expel Afghans was taken unilaterally and Pakistan should consider the consequences of such actions.

3. Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on Friday said it has killed Hamas battalion commander Mustafa Dalul during overnight combat operations.

5. Iranian prison authorities have blocked jailed Nobel Peace Prize 2023 winner Narges Mohammadi’s hospital care after she refused to wear a hijab. She is currently lodged at the Evin Prison in Tehran, serving multiple sentences amounting to about 12 years.

6. The UN General Assembly on Thursday voted by a large margin against the US’ economic and trade embargo against Cuba. It was first imposed in 1960. A total of 187 states voted for the resolution put forward against the embargo with only the US and Israel voting against and Ukraine abstaining.

7. *Elon Musk’s son is named after this famous Indian scientist* : During a meeting with the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that his son has a middle name, “Chandrasekhar,” named after Nobel physicist Prof S Chandrasekhar. Musk’s son is with his partner Shivon Zilis. Musk has a total of 11 children, including twins with Zilis.
