1. France: Anti-violence rallies held as riot tensions ease. Rallies were held in solidarity with local governments, while riots over the death of the 17-year-old lulled. Demonstrations continued in France on Monday, but this time in solidarity with local governments previously attacked by angry rioters who had been on the streets.

Those protesters were decrying the recent killing of a teenager at a traffic stop by a police officer, with some of them engaging in violence.

French policeman who killed 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk, triggering violent protests across the country, has received $1.07 million (₹8.7 crore) in donations through a Gofundme page set up for him by a far-right media commentator. In comparison, funds collected for Nahel’s family reached $206,383 on Monday. Nahel, who is of North African origin, was shot dead on June 27.
