1. Sri Lanka gets urgent $500m Indian loan to pay for oil: Officials said a formal agreement was being signed on Wednesday after two weeks of talks, in addition to a recent $915 million in foreign exchange support.
2. Sri Lanka was handed temporary relief from energy shortages and rolling blackouts on Wednesday with a $500 million loan from India to finance urgent oil purchases for the cash-strapped nation.
3. Islamic State-Khorasan released the first issue of its magazine ‘Voice Of Khurasan’ with the cover story of a boy who was sent to India in 2017 allegedly for carrying out a terrorist attack and later arrested by the Indian agencies and handed over to the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
4. The boy, a native of Afghanistan, was later released in 2020. He was then sent to the Kabul airport as to carry out the suicide attack that killed 13 American soldiers, the magazine mentioned. 2. US to deploy 3,000 troops to Eastern Europe amid Russia tensions
US has approved sending 3,000 troops to Eastern Europe, officials said on Wednesday as tensions escalate over a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine. About 2,000 US troops would be deployed to Poland and Germany, while 1,000 troops currently in Germany will head to Romania, an official confirmed. Last week, NATO had also deployed ships and fighter jets to Eastern Europe.
3. 78-yr-old German prince adopts 27-yr-old man to inherit his title & look after him in US: Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt has revealed that he legally adopted a 27-year-old man, Kevin, to inherit his title and look after him in US. The 78-year-old was adopted himself, at age 35, by Princess Marie Auguste of Germany. While the German monarchy has been abolished, the prince said, “The titles still exist but there’s no more power to nobility.”
4. 26 killed after high-voltage power cable falls on houses in Congo.
A high-tension power cable snapped and fell on houses and a market in the country’s capital, Kinshasa. The national electricity company said the line fell during heavy rain on Wednesday morning.
