What Does Wayanad Rehabilitation Plan Include?
Chief Minister Vijayan says “Rehabilitation is not just about providing homes; it’s about restoring
livelihoods.” The rehabilitation plan includes planning two sustainable townships, and restoring
the livelihood of 4,658 victims. As the High Court has also allowed the land acquisition for the
rehabilitation program, it has further expedited the entire process.
The two towns are being planned on:
● Elstone Estate in Kalpetta Municipality
● In Nedumbala Estate in Meppadi Panchayat
The town construction will be environment-friendly and will be based on the slope of the region.
The towns will offer various facilities like hospital, veterinary hospital, clean drinking water,
school, parks, market, anganwadi, recreational spaces, electricity, sports club, etc.
What Has Facilitated The Land Acquisition Of Land For The Rehabilitation Plan?
With the support of neighboring states, High Court judgment and AI Technology have facilitated
the land acquisition for the rehabilitation process.
High court’s judgment has eased the entire bureaucratic and legal process of land acquisition
process and use of drones has helped the Kerala government to identify the suitable places for
land acquisition.
Who Will Be Given Priority In The Rehabilitation Plan?
Kerala Government while implementing the rehabilitation plan is giving priority to the women,
children, elder people or widows. This implies how the State Government along with providing
disaster mitigation relief to people is also taking into consideration the most vulnerable group of
the affected population which brings social equality.
State Awaits On Center’s Response
The final list of the total people affected from the disaster will be released by the State
Government by 25th of January 2025. Additionally the information regarding the time frame
during which the Wayanad Rehabilitation Plan will be completed will also be declared by the
Kerala Government in the coming two-three weeks.
