In an attempt to further expand the premium semi-high-speed rail network of India, Indian Railways is all set to launch four new Vande Bharat Express trains across different routes in the country. The move aims to improve intercity connectivity and cut down on travel time on high-demand routes, particularly ahead of the festive season when passenger footfall is at its peak.
Routes under consideration
According to railway officials, the new Vande Bharat trains are expected to run on routes connecting major cities such as Delhi–Amritsar, Mumbai–Goa, Be
ngaluru–Hyderabad, and Patna–Howrah. These routes were chosen based on passenger demand and infrastructure readiness, ensuring maximum utilization of the upgraded rail network. Each of these corridors will see a significant cut in travel time compared to existing trains.
Timings and travel convenience
Preliminary schedules suggest that the new trains will run at both early morning and late evening timings, targeting both corporate and tourist segments of travelers. If things go as expected, the Delhi–Amritsar service would complete the journey in a little less than five hours, while the Mumbai–Goa route takes about six hours, aiming to provide comfortable travel compared to road transport. The final timings are expected to be announced soon after completion of safety and operational clearances.
Improved comfort and features
The new Vande Bharat trains would have advanced features to facilitate enhanced seating comfort, automatic doors, a Global Positioning System-based passenger information system, improved catering facilities, etc. Railways are also striving to develop better suspension systems that assure smoother ride and noise-reduction technology for quieter cabins.
Boost to Make in India initiative
All four new trains are being manufactured under the Make in India initiative at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. Officials have said that this addition marks yet another step towards the Indian government’s dream to modernize passenger traffic along with strengthening indigenous manufacturing.
Safety and operations
Every train will undertake several trial runs before launching for service, to test performance and safety standards in varied conditions. The railway authorities have also arranged for special training of the crew and maintenance staff to handle the new models efficiently. With these four new launches, the total number of Vande Bharat trains running across India will soon cross 60, underlining the government’s commitment to creating a faster, safer, and more comfortable travel experience for passengers.
