Udaipur Rape Case: French Traveler Claims She Was Sexually Assaulted After Being Taken to Man’s Flat to Charge Phone

Udaipur Rape Case

A French tourist in Udaipur, Rajasthan, has claimed that a local man raped her after taking her to his flat under the pretext of charging her phone. The crime reportedly took place earlier this week and has left authorities with serious concerns regarding tourist security in one of India’s most popular cities.

An Incidental Encounter Turns into a Crime

The 30-year-old woman, who had come to Udaipur from Delhi on June 22, was at a hotel close to the city’s Ambamata area. She visited a local café in the vicinity of Tiger Hill with friends in the evening. The man from an event management company, as per her complaint, approached her group, chatted for a while, and proposed going for a ride after getting out for a smoke.

She has claimed to have agreed, thinking that she would be taken for a short outing. Instead of taking her back to the hotel, the man took her to his apartment in Sukher. The woman explained that her phone battery had gone flat, and when she insisted on charging the battery, the accused invited her in, allegedly claiming that as a ruse to keep her isolated.

Upon entering, she alleges the man attempted to make unwanted advances. She refused, and he allegedly forced himself upon her and raped her. She said she then begged him after the incident to drop her back off at the hotel. Hours later, and in the early morning hours, he finally left her off.

The woman subsequently approached a medical facility and was admitted to a private hospital. The police confirmed that her medical checkup had been done, and a case of rape had been registered.

Accused on the Run

The accused has been named as Pushparaj Ojha, alias Siddharth, a 28-year-old Udaipur resident. He is presently absconding. Police have constituted search parties and are making raids at various places to catch him.

Police and Embassy Response

Rajasthan Police reported they have been in touch with the French Embassy in New Delhi to ensure the survivor is properly assisted. CCTV data and witness statements are being collected as part of the investigation.
