1. An order of ‘shoot-at-sight’ was on Thursday (Feb 8) by the authorities in the Haldwani area of Nainital district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand amid communal tensions, which happened in the aftermath of the demolition of an “illegally built” madrasa.
2. Protesting farmers stopped from marching to Parliament : Following the call by three farmer organisations to march to the Parliament, hundreds of farmers of Noida and Greater Noida from around 140 villages in the state came together to protest against the Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Authority, and the Uttar Pradesh government, for allegedly not accepting their demands related to compensation for their land.
3. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday raided multiple locations across the four states of Telangana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala in a case involving a top CPI (Maoist) leader.
4. The Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Junagadh district police has told a court that it is investigating financial dealings and foreign trips of Mufti Salman Azhari, the Mumbai-based cleric booked for allegedly delivering a hate speech in Junagadh on January 31, after probe revealed that he had withdrawn Rs 27.75 lakh from the account of a charitable trust he runs within a year.
5. Shiv Sena-Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray leader Abhishek Ghosalkar was shot dead in Mumbai on Thursday evening during a ‘Facebook Live’ by a local ‘social activist’ who also ended his own life.
A viral video of the incident, which took place at assailant Mauris Noronha’s office in IC Colony in the northern suburb of Borivali (West), showed Ghosalkar being shot in the abdomen and shoulder.
6. The Supreme Court, examining whether states can sub-classify the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for the grant of a quota within a quota, said on Thursday that the state governments cannot be selective in granting reservation benefits to backward classes as it will lead to a dangerous trend of appeasement.

1. INDIAN ARMY AGNIVEER RECRUITMENT 2024 :
The Indian Army commenced the application process for the next recruitment rally of Agniveers on Thursday with a deadline set for March 21. Interested and eligible candidates can apply by visiting the official website .
Age Limit. Applicants must fall within the age range of 17 to 21 years to be eligible for participation in the recruitment drive.
2. Indian Army and the Royal Saudi Land forces completed their first joint military exercise, ‘Sada Tanseeq’, in which soldiers from both countries participated.
The 12-day joint exercise started on January 29, aiming to achieve interoperability between the two forces and acquaint each other with operational procedures and combat drills under the UN mandate. The exercise was performed on semi-deserted terrain.
According to the statement, the name ‘Sada Tanseeq’ was given by both nations jointly, with ‘Sada’ given by the Indian Army, meaning forever, and ‘Tanseeq’ an Arabian word for coordination, given by the Saudi contingent.
3. The Eastern Command Investiture Ceremony 2024 will be conducted at Bengdubi to honour the Bravehearts, distinguished personnel and outstanding units on the 10th of February.
Defence PRO says, Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, Eastern Army Commander will confer the Gallantry and Distinguished Service awards to the recipients during the investiture ceremony.
4. ADVANCED VARIANT OF TEJAS FIGHTER TO TAKE FLIGHT BY END OF THIS MONTH: By the end of this month, the skies will witness the display of prowess from the advanced variant of the Light Combat Aircraft [LCA] – ‘TEJAS’ MK-1A.
HAL will now parade the evolution of this technology with the TEJAS’ MK-1A. As several sources claimed, the IAF’s ‘Cobras’, Number 3 Squadron, will be the first to operate the TEJAS MK-1A, as it retires its MiG-21 “Bisons”.
5. India’s Andaman and Nicobar Command has improved its ability to recover fixed-wing aircraft, especially during times of inclement weather over the territory.
This capability has now been enhanced with the operationalisation of a precision approach radar at INS Utkrosh, a naval air station that is located within the Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ capital known as Port Blair.
6. INDIA TO REPLACE MILITARY PERSONNEL IN MALDIVES WITH CIVILIAN TECHNICAL PEOPLE : India will replace military personnel at aviation platforms in the Maldives with competent Indian technical personnel, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday.
7. UPGRADED & BATTLE READY, INS SINDHUKIRTI READY TO SCAN SEAS: INS Sindhukirti, the third Kilo Class Diesel Electric Submarine, is the Soviet-era submarine of the Indian Navy. Acquired from the erstwhile Soviet Union back in 1990, it is one of the oldest submarines in the fleet of the Navy.
