1. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal announced a five-thousand-crore-rupee initiative to boost the waterways and maritime sector in the Northeast region.

2. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced four new Amrit Bharat trains on routes including Patna-Delhi, Darbhanga-Lucknow, Malda-Lucknow, and Saharsa-Amritsar. A regular Jogbani-Erode train was also announced for Seemanchal.

3. Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stressed on considering scientific technologies and tools to decide whether the fertilizers used by the farmers’ are genuine or spurious. Addressing the 96th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at the Pusa Campus in New Delhi, Mr. Chouhan was engaged in in-depth discussions on various topics related to innovation, sustainable development, and farmer welfare in the agricultural sector.

4. Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has said that India has set a target for 300 billion bio-economy by the year 2030.

7. The distance between Mizoram’s Aizawl and West Bengal’s Kolkata will be shortened by 700 km by 2027, as India with the help of Myanmar will be able to operationalise the Kaladan Multi Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) by then, Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said on Monday.

1. The Supreme Court agreed to hear a batch of petitions challenging the Election Commission’s decision to undertake a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar. The matter will be heard on Thursday.

2. The Calcutta High Court said the tainted candidates will not be able to sit for the 2016 School Service Commission examination. Earlier the Supreme Court canceled the recruitment of 25,752 secondary and higher secondary teachers in April this year in West Bengal.

3. Key figure in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, has made startling claims. According to Mumbai Police sources, he revealed that he was a trusted operative of the Pakistani Army and was dispatched on a covert mission to Saudi Arabia. Tahawwur Rana is currently in NIA custody and was interrogated by the Mumbai Crime Branch regarding his role in the 26/11 attacks.

4. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has initiated a high-level investigation into potential irregularities in the auction process of a hotel in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

A petition has been submitted to the Delhi High Court to halt the release of the film Udaipur Files. The petitioner argues that the movie, based on the murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal, could incite communal tensions and disturb public order in India. Maulana Arshad Madani, president of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind and principal of Darul Uloom Deoband, filed the petition.

DEFENCE News

1. Approximately 17 warships and nine submarines of the Indian Navy are currently undergoing various stages of approval. This is in addition to the existing fleet of 61 warships and submarines, which are at various stages of construction. The newly approved vessels are slated for domestic construction.

(a) Proposal of the Rs 70,000 crore project 17 B, for construction of seven Next Generation Frigates,

(b) Project 75-I is for the construction of six modern submarines, with an estimated cost of Rs 70,000 crore.

(c) Project 75 (add-ons) is for the construction of three Scorpene-class submarines, costing approximately Rs 36,000 crore.

2. The Indian Army is preparing to conduct extensive trials of a new indigenously developed Mounted Gun System (MGS), a 155mm/52 calibre truck-mounted howitzer designed for rapid deployment and high mobility in modern combat scenarios.Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at the Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) in Ahmednagar.

3. India is set to receive three additional Apache attack helicopters from the United States in July 2025, as confirmed by Defence Secretary RK Singh. These helicopters are part of a six-unit order signed in February 2020 for the Indian Army, valued at approximately ₹5,691 crore.The first three Apaches are expected to arrive by July 15.

4. Defence Secretary RK Singh has categorically denied reports that India lost Rafale fighter jets during Operation Sindoor, calling such claims “absolutely not correct” and affirming that suggestions of multiple Rafale losses are unfounded.

5. A medical officer with the Army Medical Corps, Major Dr Rohit Bachwala, 31, came to rescue a pregnant woman who suffered extreme labour pain on July 5. The young doctor used a few resources like a pocket knife and hair clip during delivery of a baby girl at foot over bridge of Jhansi Railway Station. The pregnant woman, traveling on the Panvel-Gorakhpur Express, was in distress when Dr Rohit intervened, saving both mother and child.

Dr Rohit was waiting for his train when he saw the woman on wheelchair in discomfort and immediately rushed to assist with railway staff joining him, including a female ticket-checking staff member at the spot.
