1. Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the Vinod Dham Centre of Excellence for Semiconductors and Microelectronics at Delhi Technological University.

2. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the 5th and 6th new rail line projects between Kharsia, Naya Raipur and Parmalkasa will transform the entire railway connectivity in Chhattisgarh. Talking to media in New Delhi, Mr Vaishnaw said the project worth eight thousand 741 crore rupees is included in the top ten projects of railways.

3. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) will be held from 1st May to 4th May in Mumbai.

In Jammu and Kashmir, in line with the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the rationalisation of polling stations for the upcoming by-elections in the 27-Budgam and 77-Nagrota Assembly Constituency was completed. The draft roll for the constituency will be published today.

11. Three key bills passed by J&K Assembly get Governor’s assent : The Jammu and Kashmir Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025 (L.A. Bill No. 1 of 2025), The Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation Bill, 2025 (L.A. Bill No. 2 of 2025) and The Jammu and Kashmir Appropriation Bill, 2025 (L.A. Bill No. 3 of 2025).

12. Haryana School Education Board, Bhiwani, has decided to implement the three-language formula in classes 9th and 10th in all affiliated government and non-government schools. This decision will be applicable in class 9th from the academic session 2025-26 and in class 10th from 2026-27.

1. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has moved a review petition in the Supreme Court on verdict of invalidating the 25,752 appointments in schools in the state. The Supreme Court cancelled the West Bengal School Service Commission 2016 panel in the teaching and non-teaching appointments. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is conducting an investigation into the recruitment scam.

2. Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Katari has cautioned that if the society failed to stop the youth of Punjab from drug addiction in time, it may not be able to save them from its harmful outcome. As per a survey, 22 lakh people are connected with drugs.

3. The auction of 400 acres of forested land in Kancha Gachibowli, Hyderabad, has sparked widespread protests, particularly among students of the University of Hyderabad. The Telangana government’s decision to monetize the land, which lies adjacent to the university, has raised serious concerns over environmental degradation, land ownership disputes, and a lack of proper ecological assessments.

4. Security forces in Manipur have recently intensified search operations across vulnerable areas, leading to significant recoveries of arms, ammunition, and other materials.In the Thoubal district, a major seizure was made during operations near Heirok Police Station.

5. BJP in Karnataka launched a 16-day protest, called ‘Janakrosha Yatre’, on Monday in Mysuru, targeting the Congress-led state government over rising prices and the introduction of a 4 per cent reservation for Muslims in government tenders.

6. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Bihar on Monday, April 7, was marred by a violent scuffle between two factions of the party at the state Congress office in Patna.

According reports, the altercation broke out between the supporters of former Bihar Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh and former MLA Amit Kumar Tunna. The chaos erupted at the Sadakat Ashram party office when Gandhi was holding discussions with the senior state leaders on election preparations.

1. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that the Government has decided to increase the excise duty on petrol and diesel by two rupees per litre.

The Minister also said that prices of LPG Cylinder has been increased by 50 rupees. Mr Puri said that the price of LPG for Ujjwala beneficiaries will now be 550 rupees and for others it will be 853 rupees from today.

1. Defence Ministry inks two thousand 385 crore rupee contract with Bharat Electronics Limited to acquire Electronic Warfare and modernisation equipment for Mi-17 V5 helicopters.

2. A tri-services all women Circumnavigation Sailing Expedition, “Samudra Pradakshina” from Mumbai to Seychelles and back was flagged off by Lt Gen AK Ramesh, Commandant, College of Military Engineering from the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre, Colaba in Mumbai.

The expedition, featuring an all-women 12-member crew from the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force, embarked on a challenging 55-day voyage covering 4,000 nautical miles from Mumbai to Seychelles and back aboard the IASV Triveni.

3. In a significant development for India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) plans to outsource approximately ₹25,000 crore worth of work to private sector firms as part of its recently secured ₹62,500 crore deal for 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH).

4. India is poised to formally establish its military presence in space with the imminent release of a dedicated Military Space Doctrine and National Space Policy within the next two to three months. The announcement, made by Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan emphasised the growing importance of space as a domain of warfare during his inaugural address at the third edition of the Indian DefSpace Symposium on April 7, 2025. He stated that humanity is at the “cusp of an era” where space will dominate warfare, influencing air, maritime, and land domains.

In a significant development for India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) plans to outsource approximately ₹25,000 crore worth of work to private sector firms as part of its recently secured ₹62,500 crore deal for 156 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH).

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is intensifying its modernisation efforts with plans to acquire additional missile systems, warships, and multi-role fighter jets to enhance its air and missile defence capabilities.AFP Chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. announced these plans during the recent Raisina Dialogue. The Philippines received the first batteries of the BrahMos missile in April 2024.

8. The Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Monday, engaging in unprovoked firing in the Digwar sector.

The Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV), internally named Soorya, is ISRO’s ambitious medium-to-super heavy-lift launch vehicle currently under development.Designed to support India’s growing space exploration and commercial launch needs, the NGLV incorporates cutting-edge features such as a three-stage configuration with nine engines in the first stage and two in the second stage, utilising LOX/CH4 propellants.
