1. Teachers’ Day was celebrated throughout the country yesterday.
President Droupadi Murmu says teachers have duty to instill moral values in students; President confers National Award on 82 teachers on Teachers Day. Each award comprises a certificate of merit, a cash prize of 50,000 rupees, and a silver medal.

2. The government has extended the deadline for submission of applications by selected meritorious students for the National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme for 2024-25 to the 30th of this month.

3. The nomination process for the Assembly elections in Haryana started yesterday. Former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala filed his nomination papers as a candidate of the Jannayak Janata Party from Uchana on the first day of filing. The last date for filing nominations is September 12. Polling for the 90-member Haryana Assembly will be held on 5th of October.

4. In Jammu and Kashmir, the last date for withdrawal of candidature is 17th of this month. Forty constituencies will go to polls in this phase on 1st of October. Counting of votes for single-phase assembly polls in Haryana and all three-phases of Jammu and Kashmir will take place on 8th of next month.

5. The Central Government has taken swift and decisive steps to aid flood-hit Andhra Pradesh. The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and the Minister of Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, conducted a ground-level inspection of affected areas, while a Central Expert Team assessed the damage and relief efforts.

6. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed the first International Solar Festival being held in New Delhi. The Prime Minister said the International Solar Alliance (ISA) established in 2015 is growing into a giant tree inspiring policy and action and within a short time its membership has reached a milestone of 100 countries.

7. BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda today met veteran party leaders Lal Krishna Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi and presented them with a copy of the membership renewal under the BJP National Membership Campaign.

8. The Assam Cabinet has decided to implement 80 percent of recommendations given by the Justice Biplab Sarma committee on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord to protect and safeguard land, language and culture of the indigenous people of the state.

*In another cabinet decision, the employees of the state government will get insurance coverage of one crore rupees for death and permanent disability due to accidents. 80 lakh rupees of insurance coverage will be given for partial disability. The Cabinet also approved distribution of new ration cards to 20 lakh people of the state.

9. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has said that all efforts are being made to nurture the state as a powerhouse of Artificial Intelligence with the implementation of a new framework. The Chief Minister stressed state’s readiness and unveiled a detailed AI roadmap during the Global AI Summit 2024 held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

10. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has said that all state government employees will be given an opportunity to choose between the newly announced Unified Pension Scheme of the Central Government, the National Pension Scheme and the Revised Pension Scheme announced by the State Government in the budget session.

11. BJP leader and daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party stalwart Mulayam Singh Yadav, Aparna Yadav has been appointed as Vice-Chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Women Commission. UP government appointed Babita Chauhan as Chairperson of the commission and Charu Chaudhary along with Aparna Yadav as Vice-Chairpersons. She had joined BJP in January 2022.

12. The Ministry of Women and Child Development has been honored with the National Award for e-Governance 2024 (Gold) for its digital initiative, Poshan Tracker. This tool, part of Mission Poshan 2.0, enables real-time monitoring of children’s growth, focusing on those aged 0-6 years.

13. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has forecasted four days of heavy rains across various districts of Telangana.

14. The online process for nominations and recommendations for the Padma Awards 2025 is underway and all citizens can apply for the same, including self-nomination. As per the Union Home Ministry, the nomination process had commenced on 01 May 2024 and Padma Awards 2025 will be announced on the occasion of the upcoming Republic Day. The last date for the online nominations or recommendations for Padma Awards 2025 is 15 September.

15. Veteran CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury’s health has deteriorated, and he has been shifted to a ventilator at AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi, according to reports on Thursday. The 72-year-old, who was admitted to AIIMS on August 19, is in critical condition and is being monitored by a team of seven doctors.

1. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday ordered the suspension of Sujith Das, IPS, days after his purported conversation with Left MLA P V Anvar surfaced, allegedly revealing internal issues in the police.

2. Mohammad Javed, one of the accused in the tailor Kanhaiya Lal murder case in Rajasthan’s Udaipur in 2022, was on Thursday granted bail by the Rajasthan high court. Javed had pleaded for bail in the Jaipur bench of the high court after the NIA court denied him relief in the case.

3. Hindu right bodies on Thursday staged a massive protest at Chaura Maidan in Shimla in the vicinity of the Vidhan Sabha demanding demolition of an “illegal” mosque in Sanjauli.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday vehemently opposed in the Supreme Court the Central Bureau of Investigation’s argument that he should have approached the trial court first for bail in the corruption case linked to the alleged excise policy scam, asserting it would not be fair to send the matter back to the trial court at this stage.

6. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered a significant document in the investigation of the rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital. This document reveals that former principal Sandip Ghosh instructed the state public works department (PWD) to carry out renovations near the crime scene just a day after the victim’s body was found.

1. Three labourers were killed and as many injured after a portion of a slab at an under-construction building collapsed in Mumbai on Thursday. The incident occurred around 12.10 pm at Govind Nagar of Malad (East) in the western suburbs of Mumbai.

2. In Nagaland, six persons lost their lives and three were injured, after a series of massive mudslides and landslides hit National Highway-29 between Kohima and Dimapur following heavy rainfall last night. A high-level meeting was convened by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to take stock of the disaster and discuss restoration and relief measures.

1. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das affirmed that India’s economic growth remains on track. He said that the central bank’s projection of a 7.2 percent GDP growth for FY25 is realistic. He said this while addressing the inaugural session of the Annual FIBAC 2024 Conference in Mumbai.

2. In view of the price hike of onions, the Centre today started the retail sale of the kitchen staple at a subsidized rate of 35 rupees per kilogram in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai. Onions will be sold through mobile vans and retail outlets.

3. In view of the heavy rains and floods in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Union Finance Ministry has directed public sector insurance companies to provide full support to people affected by the floods.

4. The Karnataka government has decided to withdraw its boycott of the State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB) after the lenders repaid Rs 22.67 crore of embezzled money along with a year’s interest.

On August 12, the Finance Department issued a circular ending all transactions with the two banks accusing them of not cooperating with the government in recovering Rs 22 crore that was embezzled.

5. Amazon Inc expects to help Indian exporters sell about $5 billion worth of small-ticket items through its platform this year in markets such as the United States and Britain, up from nearly $3 billion in 2023.

1. The list of celebrities who paid the highest amount of income tax in 2024 in India is out now and it is topped by actor Shah Rukh Khan. The Jawan actor reportedly paid Rs 92 crore in taxes, as per a report by Fortune India. Shah Rukh Khan is followed by the likes of Vijay, Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. The highest tax paying celebrity cricketer in India is Virat Kohli who paid Rs 66 crore.

2. The Kerala High Court has decided to set up a special bench to hear cases relating to the report of the Justice Hema Committee, which looked into various issues faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Muhamed Mustaque and Justice S Manu said the Bench will have women judges as its members.

1. The 6th meeting of the India-Saudi Arabia Joint Committee on Defence Cooperation (JCDC) convened in Riyadh on Sept 4, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral defence relations. The high-level talks were co-chaired by India’s Joint Secretary (Armed Forces) Amitabh Prasad and Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Defence for Strategic Affairs, Major General Salman Bin Awadh Al-Harbi.

2. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asked the armed Forces to be prepared to face any eventualities to preserve peace in the country amid ongoing conflicts world over. He asked top commanders of the armed forces to analyze events such as the Russia-Ukraine war, the Israel-Hamas conflicts, and the current situation in Bangladesh, and to remain prepared for any unforeseen challenges.

3. An extensive search operation to locate the missing pilot of the Indian Coast Guard’s Dhruv helicopter is in progress in the Arabian Sea off the Porbandar coast of Gujarat. For the rescue operation, four ships of the Indian Coast Guard, two ships of the Indian Navy, and several aircraft have been deployed.
