1. Not satisfied with the road ministry’s action to remove encroachments from national highways, the Supreme Court has directed the ministry to submit a detailed report of actions taken in eight major states, including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Assam.
2. The Election Commission has directed the Andhra Pradesh government to transfer Director General of Police K V Rajendranath Reddy with immediate effect.

In taking a stand against illegal and unauthorised constructions in the city of Kolkata, the Calcutta High Court has directed the Kolkata Police to form a Special Task Force to assist the functionaries of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) in conducting a demolition drive to destroy unauthorised constructions which have come up in the city.
4. A 19-year-old man was beaten to death after he allegedly tore some pages of the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikhs, at a gurdwara in Punjab’s Ferozepur on Saturday. He was mentally challenged and had been on medication for two years, claimed his father Lakhwinder Singh, calling on the police to register a case against those who killed his son.

In August 2019, Singh surrendered in the arms case in a Delhi court and since then he has been languishing in Patna’s Beur jail as the MP-MLA court in Patna had awarded him 10 years’ imprisonment in the case.

Six members of a family were killed and two others injured after their car was hit by a vehicle in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district on Sunday, The accident occurred on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near the Banas river bridge.

1. Ministry of Defence has signed agreements worth ₹9,900 crore with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the procurement of 70 HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft.The Union Cabinet had on 1 March approved the procurement of 70 HTT-40 trainer aircraft from HAL at a cost of over ₹6,800 crore.
2. A military operation against terrorists has started in woods of Gursai Mendhar area of the Poonch on Saturday after militants attacked a vehicle belonging to Indian Air Force or Military Engineering Services (MES).
Poonch is part of Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency which goes to polls in the sixth phase on May 25.
3. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has taken the delivery of its second C-295 aircraft from Airbus in Spain, and the ₹21,935-crore project to modernise the IAF’s transport fleet is moving at the desired pace, officials said that the aircraft is expected to arrive in the country on May 6.
