1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat and very heavy rainfall in West Madhya Pradesh. The weather agency has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Kerala, Mahe and West Uttar Pradesh till today.

9. The Labour and Employment Ministry has initiated a move to extend the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to disadvantaged workers. A letter has been issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment to all State Governments, urging the inclusion of migrant workers, building workers, beedi workers, cine workers, non-coal mine workers, contract labourers, and other unorganised workers.

10. Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the AgriSURE Fund and Krishi Nivesh Portal in New Delhi.

11. The Memorandum of Settlement will be signed among central and Tripura governments, representatives of National Liberation Front of Tripura, NLFT and All Tripura Tiger Force, ATTF in New Delhi today in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha.

13. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday laid the foundation stone for a project valued at Rs 1,347 crore for supplying water from the Sone river for drinking purposes in Aurangabad, Dehri and Sasaram cities. The project will be completed in two years.

New eye drops to help remove reading glasses have been approved by India’s drug regulatory agency: Mumbai-based Entod Pharmaceuticals has developed PresVu Eye Drops for presbyopia treatment, Presbyopia occurs naturally with ageing, leading to difficulty in focusing on close objects. It typically starts in the mid-40s and worsens until about late 60s.

16. A group of prominent Muslims from Mumbai on Tuesday announced a 12-day-long ‘Prophet for all’ campaign aimed at creating awareness about the life and teachings of the founder of Islam. Former MLA Yusuf Abhrani said the campaign, which will run from September 4 to September 16, is being held in the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.

17. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s father Poonam Chand Yadav died in Ujjain on Tuesday evening following prolonged illness. He was 100 years.

18. Harish Kutty, an aviation veteran with an experience of over 35 years joins the new-airline Air Kerala as the first chief executive officer. Prior to joining Air Kerala, Kutty was the director of revenue and network planning at SalamAir, a regional airline in Oman.

1. The West Bengal Assembly passed the the Aparajita Women and Child (West Bengal Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill, 2024, with a voice vote today. During the discussion in the house, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that provision of capital punishment has been provided in the bill. She also said provision of harshest punishment has been provided in the bill for the crime of rape and sexual harassment. The Bill was tabled in the wake of the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata in August. The bill is now required to be passed by the Governor of the state and then it will be sent to the President.

2. In Chhattisgarh, Nine Maoists killed in an encounter with security forces in the border area of Dantewada and Bijapur districts of Bastar division.

3. Doha bank loan fraud: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at three locations in Kerala on August 28, uncovering evidence of a massive financial fraud involving a Kannur-based businessman. Ismail Chakkarath, the prime suspect, allegedly duped United Bank Limited in Doha, Qatar, of over ₹61 crore.

4. The members of the Junior Doctors Association (JDA) at B J Medical College (BJMC) — associated with the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital — who have been demanding a 40 per cent stipend hike for resident doctors and interns, ended their strike late Tuesday after meeting Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who assured them that their demands would be considered.

6. Former president of Atlas Cycles Salil Kapoor allegedly died by suicide at his home in Lutyens’ Delhi on Tuesday. His sister-in-law Natasha Kapoor had also committed suicide in the same house in January 2020.

1. The Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman yesterday chaired a review meeting on the budgeted capital expenditure for the Ministry of Road, Transport, and Highways and the Ministry of Communications in New Delhi.

During the review with regard to the Ministry of Communication, the details of capital expenditure,
(a) Capex plans in financial year 2024-25 for the Bharat Net Programme,
(b) 4G mobile projects—Indigenous Technology, Network for Spectrum, and 4G saturation—and other mobile projects were discussed.

2. The World Bank has raised India’s growth forecast for Financial Year 2024-25 to seven percent, up from an earlier projection of 6.6 per cent. The international financial institution stated that the country’s economic growth will remain strong over the medium term, driven by key factors such as private consumption and investment.

3. The Union Ministry of Finance will dilute a 6.78 per cent stake in public-sector reinsurance company General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC) Re to garner around Rs 4,700 crore.
The stake sale, for the first time since the listing of the reinsurance company in 2017 through the offer-for-sale (OFS) route, will begin on Wednesday for non-retail investors.

1. Government approves proposals worth one lakh 45 thousand crore rupees to enhance the country’s defence preparedness.

2. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) under the chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved 10 capital acquisition proposals . The Council gave a nod to procurement of Future Ready Combat Vehicles, Air Defence Fire Control Radars, Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol and Offshore Patrol Vessels.

3. An Indian Coast Guard helicopter made an emergency hard landing and ditched into the Arabian Sea off Gujarat’s Porbandar coast on Monday night with four crew members onboard. One crew member has been recovered, while search is underway to trace remaining three. India Coast Guard said, the Advance Light Helicopter was launched yesterday night to evacuate an injured crew member from the Motor Tanker Hari Leela. It said, four ships and two aircrafts have been deployed for rescue efforts.

4. The Software Development Institute of Indian Air Force in Bengaluru has designed, developed and deployed a super dimona aircraft simulator for the National Defence Academy. The Air Force Training Team at NDA will use it to familiarise the cadets with basic flying aspects along with necessary knowledge of the flying environment.

5. India and 🇰🇪Kenya discussed a wide range of avenues for defence cooperation during the third edition of the Joint Defence Cooperation Committee meeting in New Delhi. The Kenyan delegation met Indian defence industry representatives in the national capital.

6. Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurates 3 day Armed Forces Festival in Lucknow. He said that the Indian Armed Forces are unparalleled globally, and even India’s enemies acknowledge the strength, discipline, and technical prowess of its armed forces.

7. The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the proposal for the procurement of 240 aero-engines for the Su-30 MKI aircraft of the Indian Air Force. The approval was granted under the Buy (Indian) category from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at a cost of over 26,000 crore rupees, inclusive of all taxes and duties. The Ministry of Defence said, the delivery of these aero-engines would begin after one year and be completed over a period of eight years.

8. In a historic leap for India’s defence capabilities, Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace (FWDA) has successfully launched the country’s first indigenously built combat unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the FWD 200B. This marks a significant milestone, as India joins the ranks of nations equipped with advanced unmanned combat aircraft.

9. Lieutenant General M V Suchindra Kumar, Army Commander Northern Command, on Sunday inaugurated the “Gul-A-Seum,” a state-of-the-art Gulmarg Army Museum in skir-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir.
