1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD)-Hyderabad on Friday issued a cold wave warning for Telangana for the next three days. In its five-day forecast, the IMD-H said cold wave conditions will prevail at several regions in Telangana with minimum temperatures hovering between 2 degrees C and 4 degrees C.

2. The government on Friday said that Vande Bharat sleeper train has achieved a peak speed of 180 km per hour in its multiple trials in the last three days.

3. The Ministry of Education (MoE) has recently released the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) report 2023-24. It reported a decline in student enrolment for the academic year 2023-24. The total enrolment fell to 24.8 crore, a drop of over one crore compared to previous years. This decrease marks a notable shift from the stable enrolment figures of around 26 crore observed over the last four years.

4. Shri Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, announced investment plan to improve Delhi‘s transport network. The government will allocate ₹12,500 crore, along with an additional ₹1,200 crore from the CRIF fund.

5. Assam has recently reported increase in its elephant population. The latest estimate reveals a total of 5,828 elephants, marking a rise of 109 since the previous count in 2017.

6. The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has recently amended the rules for selecting experts in the Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC). These changes aim to enhance transparency and address conflicts of interest among committee members.

9. In Rajasthan, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari launched the third phase of ”Suposhit Maa Abhiyan” in Kota. Nutrition kits were distributed to 1,500 pregnant women from needy families.

10. North Central Railway has introduced a new, tech-savvy way for Maha Kumbh attendees to book their train tickets. Railway staff will wear green jackets with QR codes.

In Assam, Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Railways, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, flagged off three trains—the Guwahati-New Lakhimpur Jan Shatabdi Express, the New Bongaigaon-Guwahati passenger train, and the Tinsukia-Naharlagun Express—and dedicated a road over the bridge in Guwahati.

12. The Railway Ministry will set up a new railway division with headquarters at Jammu under the Northern Railway Zone by reorganising the Firozpur division.

13. Twenty-seven persons will be conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards by President Droupadi Murmu in the valedictory session of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations. The 18th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is scheduled to be held from 8th to 10th January at Bhubaneswar in Odisha.

14. In Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Ahmedabad International Flower Show at Sabarmati River Front. The flower show will be held for 20 days till January 22nd.

15. One Nation One Subscription (ONOS), launched on January 1, 2025, provides Indian students, faculty, and researchers with access to over 13,000 international scholarly journals across diverse disciplines.

16. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that all infrastructure projects in the state will have unique identification which will help streamline the system and bring transparency.

17. In Punjab, to educate prisoners to facilitate their reintegration into mainstream society after their release from the jails, the Department of Prisons has permanently employed 15 teachers. They will not only teach the inmates but their children as well.

18. The Puducherry Health Department has issued an advisory urging residents to stay vigilant against scrub typhus, a bacterial infection caused by the bite of infected mites. The disease, prevalent in neighbouring states and more common during winter, is not contagious and spreads only through mite bites.

1. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a case against three accused including two Inspectors of Customs and Central Excise, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) Hyderabad and an Officer of Canara Bank, Customs Duty Collection Counter and unknown others on allegations relating to bribery.

2. The High Court of Karnataka has directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to return a property, which it acquired in Mangaluru city 15 years ago, back to the owner for not publishing the name of the owner and the extent of the land required for the highway project in the acquisition notification. The NHAI had issued notifications under Section 3 of the National Highways (NH) Act, 1956, for acquiring several properties.

3. Jharkhand police arrested three most wanted PLFI naxalis from the Bakaspur forest area under the Jariagarh police station of Khunti district.

4. In Kerala, a CBI Special Court at Ernakulam today sentenced ten CPI-M activists to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of two Youth Congress workers — Sharathlal and Kripesh, at Periya in Kasaragod district in 2019. A fine of one lakh rupees each was also imposed on them.

Sai Paranjpye to Receive Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award: Sai Paranjpye, a legendary director and writer in Indian cinema, is set to be honored with the Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming Ajanta-Ellora International Film Festival (AIFF) 2025. Known for her impactful slice-of-life films such as Sparsh, Chashme Buddoor, Katha, and Saaz, Paranjpye is regarded as a pillar of India’s parallel cinema movement, which gained prominence in the 1970s and 1980.

2. The Gangadhar National Award for Poetry 2023 will be conferred upon the renowned Odia poet Prativa Satpathy by Sambalpur University on its 58th foundation day on January 5.

1. The French carrier strike group (CSG), led by the aircraft carrier FNS Charles de Gaulle, is scheduled to make stopovers in Goa and Kochi starting January 4, 2025. This deployment is part of Mission CLEMENCEAU 25, which aims to enhance maritime security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly through joint exercises with Indian naval forces.

2. Navy skydivers collide during rehearsal for operational demo : Two Indian Navy personnel participating in the Eastern Naval Command’s (ENC) Special Operational Demonstration rehearsal at RK Beach in Visakhapatnam on Thursday (January 2) reportedly had their parachutes entangled mid-air and fell into the sea. They were unhurt and safely brought ashore with an immediate rescue initiated by the Navy’s emergency crew at sea.

3. Garuda Aerospace, a prominent drone manufacturer based in Tamil Nadu, has partnered with Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Limited (REIL) to establish a Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) in Jaipur.
