1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu attended the inaugural convocation ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Kalyani, held in Nadia district, West Bengal yesterday. The President conferred degrees upon 48 MBBS graduates and 9 Post-Doctoral Certificate Course (PDCC) scholars.

6. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the Sanchar Saathi mobile app in Hindi and 21 regional languages, ensuring its reach across diverse regions. Originally introduced in January, the app allows users to report suspicious communications, block or trace lost or stolen phones, and check for unauthorized mobile connections.

1. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carryied out raids at eight locations in Hyderabad, Telangana in connection with a sheep distribution scam case.
2. The External Affairs Ministry sources have said that the claims regarding the revocation of the death sentence of Nimisha Priya are incorrect. They have urged people to avoid misinformation and speculation on this sensitive matter.
Nimisha Priya, a 41-year-old nurse from Kerala, was scheduled to be executed on July 16 after being convicted of killing her business associate, Yemeni national Talal Abdo Mahdi, in June 2018. Supreme Judicial Council of Yemen upheld her execution in November 2023. However, the execution was postponed following concerted efforts by the government in recent days to seek more time for the family of Nimisha Priya to reach a mutually agreeable solution with the other party.

1. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised its forecast for India’s economic growth to 6.4 percent for both 2025 and 2026. Earlier in its April 2025 World Economic Outlook, IMF had projected India’s GDP growth at 6.2 percent for 2025 and 6.3 percent for 2026.
2. The Income Tax Department has ruled out any change in tax rates under the Income Tax Bill 2025. The IT Department has issued a clarification on the proposed Income Tax Bill 2025, saying that it is only meant to simplify language and remove redundant or outdated provisions, and does not propose any change in tax rates.
3. In a major development for India’s energy sector, the thermal power industry is set to witness an investment surge of ₹77,000 crore from private sector players between FY26 and FY28, according to a report by Crisil Ratings. This marks a significant shift as private firms like Adani Power, Tata Power, JSW Energy, and Vedanta Power take the lead in strengthening the country’s thermal power capacity, largely through brownfield projects that sidestep land acquisition challenges.

1. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the United Arab Emirates National Guard yesterday signed an agreement on Maritime Security and Safety Cooperation in New Delhi today. Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has successfully launched the sixth vessel in its series of eight state-of-the-art Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs), designated Yard 1275, for the Indian Coast Guard. Named ‘ICGS Atal,’ this latest addition to the fleet underscores GSL’s dedication to bolstering India’s maritime security with indigenously designed and built platforms.
3. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a Manufacturing License Agreement (MLA) with General Electric (GE) Aerospace for co-production of the F414-INS6 engines to power India’s TEJAS MK-2 fighter aircraft, marking a significant milestone in India’s defence indigenisation efforts.
