9 pilgrims killed after Amritsar-Katra bus falls into gorge in J&K. Nine people were killed when a bus carrying over 75 pilgrims from Amritsar in Punjab to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu & Kashmir’s Katra veered off a bridge and fell into a gorge at Jhajjar Kotli, around 35 km from Jammu, on Tuesday morning.

1. ISRO’s GSLV f 12 rocket with NVS – 01 satellite was successfully launched at 10.42 from Sriharikota. The rocket lifted off from the second launch pad at Satish Dhawan Space Centre and injected NVS -01 satellite in its geosynchronous orbit.

1. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against Rolls Royce India Pvt Ltd, Tim Jones, Director, Rolls Royce and one Sudhir Chaudhary and Bhanu Chaudhary.

2. 42-year-old wrestling and lagori coach in Maharashtra was sentenced to five years imprisonment on Monday for sexually harassing students after taking them to a resort under the guise of a state-level sports tournament.

3. SAKSHI MURDER CASE : A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death by her alleged boyfriend, accused Sahil brutally killed a 16-year-old girl on Sunday evening by stabbing her over 20 times and bludgeoning her to death with a cement slab.

Police arrested Sahil from Bulandshahr after a call from his aunt to his father was traced to his location to the Uttar Pradesh district.

4. A massive fire broke out at the Lajpat Nagar market on Monday and around 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse it.

5. Three Bengaluru youths on weekend trip try to save friend from drowning in lake, all die.
Four friends, all aged 18, drowned in the Ramanathapura Lake near Bengaluru.

6. Six people were reported dead after being electrocuted at Nichitpur railway crossing in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district on Monday, Railways officials have said. The incident took place when an electric pole they were installing fell on a high-tension overhead wire.

1. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said it was “well within” RBI’s business to withdraw ₹2,000 banknotes as they had completed their lifespan. RBI introduced the note to remonetise the economy after demonetisation and that objective has been achieved, Sitharaman said.

2. Government has decided to grant waiver of Inter-State Transmission Charges ISTS charges to Off-Shore Wind Projects and extend the waiver to Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia.

3. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman said that in the last nine years, more than 3.5 crore pucca houses and around 11.72 crore toilets are constructed in the country.

4. The Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute (SWFI), the world’s most trusted source on institutional investors and global capital, has announced its Global Wealth Conference (GWC), taking place in historic locations on May 31 and June 1 in London.

The conference will be attended by 40 sovereign wealth funds, 50+ family offices from around the world, 30+ pension and public funds, 50+ institutional global asset managers, and 30+ prominent personalities from royal families to policymakers. From India, law firm Nishith Desai Associates, SUN Group, Jindal Steel and Power, and a few others will attend the conference.

1. Kriti Sanon visited Panchvati, Nashik to seek blessings at Sita Gufa and Kalaram Temple. The actress was joined by the music composer duo Sachet-Parampara, who have sung the song ‘Ram Siya Ram’ from her upcoming film ‘Adipurush’. The song was released by the makers on Monday.

DEFENCE

1. India’s Defence Cyber Agency (DCA) is conducting a week-long exercise to test resilience of India’s cyber infrastructure from cyber attacks based out of China. All three services, including the Army, Air Force, and Navy, along with the Defence Cyber Agency, are participating in the exercises.

2. China-based hackers were responsible for the cyberattack on five servers of AIIMS in Delhi on November 23, 2022. The subsequent cyber post-mortem revealed that the malware designed to steal medical records had been implanted in the servers as far back as 2014.

3. Indian Naval Ship INS Delhi arrived at Port Klang in Malaysia on 29 May for three days as a part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet deployment to ASEAN countries.INS Delhi will make a port call from May 29 to May 31 as part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet deployment to ASEAN nations.

4. A large batch of 40 Indian Army officers will be posted to the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Navy in a major step towards integration of the military and creation of theatre commands (Joint commands of army, air force and navy).

The cross-deployment, a corresponding number of officers from the IAF and the Navy are also likely to be posted to the Indian Army for executing similar tasks. This is a major step in creating cross-functional teams which will be a primary requirement for achieving theaterisation, the defence officials said.

5. An Air Force’s Apache helicopter made an emergency landing in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind. Officials said that the pilot noticed a technical fault in the chopper, and decided to make a precautionary landing.
