It is celebrated on the first day of the Shukla paksha of the Indian month of Chaitra
Ugadi or Yugadi literally means ‘the beginning of a new age’. With reference to the commencement of the Kali Yuga that started when Lord Krishna left the world, Ugadi is celebrated as the New Year in the Deccan region that lies between the Vindhyachal hills and the Kaveri river,consisting of the states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka.
2. President Droupadi Murmu has extended her greetings to the people on the eve of Chaitra Sukladi, Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Cheti Chand, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba.
3. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ’s Mann Ki Baat programme will air today at 11 AM.
4. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Government Aims to Eradicate Naxalism by March 2026.
5. PM Modi will visit Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh today (Sunday) . In Maharashtra, he will travel to Nagpur & visit Deekshabhoomi, he will lay the foundation stone of Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre in Nagpur and address a public meeting. He will also inaugurate the Loitering Munition Testing Range and Runway facility for UAVs at Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited in the city.
Thereafter, the Prime Minister will travel to Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh and dedicate multiple development projects worth over 33,000 crore rupees.
6. The Kosi Mechi Intra-State Link Project is initiative aimed at improving irrigation and flood management in Bihar. Recently approved by the Cabinet, this project is part of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana-Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (PMKSY-AIBP).
7. The Lok Sabha has recently passed the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, 2024. This legislation aims to update India’s maritime laws to align with international standards. It replaces the outdated Indian Carriage of Goods by Sea Act, 1925.
8. Telangana state government is likely to extend the deadline for payment of regularisation charges under the layout regularisation scheme (LRS) by a month and extend it up to April 30, following a surge in payments over the past week.
9. The India Meteorological Department has forecast that the maximum temperature is likely to increase over northwest India by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius from tomorrow till 2nd April.
10. The Indian Banks Association (IBA), a key representative body of the banking industry, has appointed State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Challa Sreenivasalu Setty as its new chairman for the next fiscal year.

1. Cash-at-judge’s door case : CBI court acquits Nirmal Yadav in 17-year-old-case
Three other accused, Ravinder Singh Bhasin, Rajiv Gupta and Nirmal Singh, were also acquitted in the 2008 cash-at-judge’s door case.
2. The CBI court pronounced its verdict after 28 years in the much talked bitumen scam case in Ranchi. The court of CBI’s special judge P.K. Sharma has sentenced five convicts, including former Bihar minister Md Ilyas Hussain, to three years of imprisonment each.
3. In Chhattisgarh, 17 Maoists, including 11 female Maoists, were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Sukma district of the Bastar division. Four security personnel were injured in this encounter.
4. In Jharkhand, police and security forces have achieved another success in the state-wide campaign being conducted against Naxalites. CRPF and police personnel have arrested Murari Bhuinya, area commander of banned extremist organization JJMP, from the Katia forest area under the Chhipadohar police station of the Latehar district.

A total of 131 National Security Guard commandos from the Gandhinagar regional hub were rescued by Surat Fire and Emergency Services (SFES) after they were trapped in a four-storey commercial complex due to a fire in the early hours of Saturday.
The commandos were in the city for the past three days for a drill in association with city police.

1. The Union Cabinet of India approved the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme. This initiative is backed by a substantial budget of ₹22,919 crore. The scheme aims to enhance India’s electronics manufacturing capabilities, focusing on the production of crucial electronic components.

Yield Engineering Systems (YES), a global leader in materials and interface engineering equipment, has shipped its first India-manufactured semiconductor tool, the VeroTherm Formic Acid Reflow, from its Coimbatore facility to a leading global semiconductor manufacturer. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first advanced semiconductor tool produced in India.

1. India has approved a major defence deal worth Rs 62,000 crore to acquire 156 Light Combat Prachand helicopters from Hindustan Aeronautical Limited for the Indian Army and Air Force. These helicopters are capable of operating at high altitudes and are equipped with advanced attack systems. The formal induction to the Indian Air Force occurred in October 2022.
In June 2024, HAL received an order for 156 Light Combat Helicopters. Out of these 156 helicopters, 90 will be allocated to the Indian Army and 60 to the Indian Air Force. These helicopters are manufactured at HAL’s Tumukru plant in Karnataka.
2. OPERATION BRAHMA : India to airlift filed hospital to Myanmar, sends naval ships. India has dispatched two naval ships to the neighbouring country while a field hospital is slated to be airlifted.
3. The 14th edition of the Indian-Russia bilateral naval exercise INDRA is scheduled from 28 March to 2 April 2025 off the coast of Chennai. This exercise represents milestone in the maritime partnership between India and Russia.
4. The Indian Army has recently developed the ‘Kharga’ Kamikaze drone, a significant advancement in aerial warfare technology. This high-speed, lightweight drone is designed for intelligence, surveillance, and targeted strikes, capable of reaching speeds of up to 40 meters per second.With a payload capacity of 700 grams of explosives, it is equipped with GPS navigation.
5. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma called on Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi in New Delhi and discussed a range of geostrategic issues. They exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, focusing on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, enhancing military collaboration and exploring avenues for joint initiatives for strengthening regional security.
