1. Monthly 123rd monthly ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (June 29, 2025) said that :

(a) India has been declared free of Trachoma — an eye disease.

Trachoma is a bacterial infection of the eyes caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. It’s a leading cause of preventable blindness worldwide, particularly in impoverished areas with poor access to clean water and sanitation.

(b) Prime Minister urges people to remember those who fought against imposition of Emergency.

(c) PM Modi said, Bodoland in Assam today stands out in the country with a new face and a new identity. He said, the energy and confidence that the youth there have, is most visible on the football field.

(d) Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the first Indian to board the International Space Station (ISS), made history with his recent mission as the pilot of the Axiom-4 spaceflight. On Saturday, he interacted with Prime Minister Narendra Modi from aboard the ISS, sharing his unique experiences and reflections while orbiting approximately 400 kilometers above Earth.

(e) Prime Minister has asserted that from health to social security, the country is moving ahead with a feeling of saturation in every field, which is also a great picture of social justice.

2. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw directs Railway board to initiate preparing reservation charts eight hours prior to train departure in phased manner.

3. Union Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday reiterated the Government’s firm resolve to eradicate Maoism from the country by next year. He made it clear that no dialogue will be held with armed left-wing extremists. Addressing a Kisan Sammelan in Nizamabad, Telangana after inaugurating the National Turmeric Board headquarters.

4. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the formation of a committee headed by Dr Narendra Jadhav to make recommendations regarding the three-language formula in schools.

5. The government has launched the ‘GoIStats’ mobile application, which will help stakeholders seamlessly access official data on the go. The initiative by the National Sample Survey Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), marks a significant milestone in India’s commitment to making official statistics accessible and user-centric for all citizens.

6. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the annual conference of Zone-2 of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) at Tapovan, Dharamshala.

7. President Droupadi Murmu will be on a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh beginning today. During her visit, she will grace various events in Bareilly and Gorakhpur.

8. The monsoon remains fully active across all parts of Himachal Pradesh, with several areas experiencing heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Major rivers and streams in the state are in spate, and water is being released from dams built on these rivers.

9. In Uttarakhand, rivers and streams are in spate due to continuous rain in the high altitude areas of the state.

DEFENCE News

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved significant milestones in the development of three major indigenous defence platforms: the Zorawar light tank, the Future Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV), and the extended-range Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher (MBRL). Each of these systems is poised to substantially enhance the Indian Army’s operational capabilities, particularly in challenging terrains.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has decided to equip all 83 Tejas Mk1A fighter jets with imported Israeli ELTA radar and electronic warfare suites, abandoning earlier plans to use the indigenous Uttam radar due to certification delays.

3. The Astra Mk2 air-to-air missile, with a range of 160–170 km, is ready for integration with Tejas Mk1 and Mk1A fighter jets, with flight trials expected by mid-2026.

4. IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with Endure, is set to launch the Sabal-50, a heavy-lift UAV capable of carrying 50 kg payloads at altitudes up to 17,000 feet, for combat and logistics roles.

5. Debris from an Indian Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) was found in Pakistan, confirming that the Indian Air Force successfully shot down a Pakistani JF-17 fighter jet inside Pakistani territory in recent India-Pakistan conflict.
