Beating the Retreat ceremony 2022

3. PM Modi will share his thoughts with the people of the country and abroad in the Mann Ki Baat programme on All India Radio at 11.30 AM on Sunday. This time Mann Ki Baat will be broadcast from 11.30 AM instead of usual 11 AM after observing the remembrances to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary. This will be the 85th edition of the monthly radio programme and the first episode of 2022.

4. Beating the Retreat ceremony was held at the historic Vijay Chowk in New Delhi on Saturday evening. A thousand drones dazzled the sky above Delhi for the first time ever, as part of a drone show which was the highlight of the Beating Retreat ceremony.

5. Ahead of Budget session of Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has convened an all-party meeting on Sunday to ensure smooth functioning of the House. Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu has also called all party meeting virtually on Monday.

6. Govt has said that the social security benefits will be provided to around 7,453 Air India employees for whom contributions have been filed by Air India with EPFO for the month of December 2021. Labour and Employment Ministry said, these employees will receive extra 2% employer’s contributions in their Provident Fund Accounts at 12% of their wages.

7. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued Standard Operating procedure (SOP) for transportation of cash scrupulously during the elections, when Model Code of Conduct is in force.

8. Election Commission has banned on conducting and publishing exit polls between 10 February and 7 March. The decision has been taken in view of the upcoming assembly elections in five states Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand.

9. PM Modi has expressed grief over the demise of social worker and Padma Shri awardee Baba Iqbal Singh. In a tweet, PM Modi said, he will be remembered for his efforts to increase education among youngsters. He said, Baba Iqbal Singh tirelessly worked towards furthering social empowerment.

10. Baba Iqbal Singh started his career as a civil servant in Himachal Pradesh’s department of agriculture. After retiring from the service as director 1986, he moved to Baru Sahib in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district and started Akal Academy. Baba Iqbal Singh established 129 low-cost schools and two private universities in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana,Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

11. Government has proposed to allow modification in replacement of diesel engines with CNG and LPG engines, in case of Bharat Stage, BS-VI vehicles less than 3.5 tonnes.

12. The govt has set Monday (January 31st) as the last date for schools to register with Sainik Schools Society for setting up new schools. Process also underway for evaluation of 284 registered schools for academic session 2022-23.

13. ANDHRA PRADESH: Waltair division of East Coast Railway on Saturday declared that single-use plastic was banned on the railway jurisdictions including Vizag railway station. If anybody is found with the banned product, a strict action would be taken.

15. Karnataka: Night curfew will be withdrawn in Karnataka from Monday and schools and colleges in Bengaluru will reopen as well. As part of revised guidelines, government offices will run at full capacity, instead of 50%. Hotels, restaurants, clubs, pubs and bars have also been allowed to function with full capacity.

17. Telangana : A decision on the reopening of educational institutions. State education minister, Sabitha Indra Reddy said that all educational institutions in the state will be reopened from 1 February. The minister also clarified that Covid guideline must be strictly ensured along with strict precautions.

18. Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). : The new chairman of the ISRO Dr S Somanath has indicated inauguration of indigenous new launch rockets, called the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). The SSLV is a small-lift launch vehicle being developed by the ISRO with payload capacity to deliver:

600 kg to Low Earth Orbit (500 km) or
300 kg to Sun-synchronous Orbit (500 km)
It would help launching small satellites, with the capability to support multiple orbital drop-offs.
In future a dedicated launch pad in Sriharikota called Small Satellite Launch Complex (SSLC) will be set up.

FINANCE:
19. The Budget Session of Parliament shall begin on January 31 with the address by President Ram Nath Kovind to both Houses in the Central Hall. On February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union budget for the year 2022-23.

20. Both the Houses of Parliament will function in shifts to ensure Covid safety protocol. The new protocol will come into effect from 2nd of February. Rajya Sabha proceedings will begin from 10 AM to 3 PM and Lok Sabha from 4 PM to 9 PM. The first part of the Budget Session will continue till 11th of February. After a month-long recess, the second part of the session will begin from 14th of March and conclude on 8th of April this year.

ENTERTAINMENT:

21.The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested Dubai-based drug lord Sahil Shah alias Flacko in connection with the drugs case involving late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. the name of Sahil Shah, an immediate neighbour of late Sushant Singh Rajput, first came to light when the agency arrested the first two accused — Karan Arora and Abbas Lakhani — in connection with supply of drugs. Sources said that Sahil Shah used to supply drugs to many famous people in Bollywood, including Rajput, through drug peddlers.

DEFENCE:

22. Army adopts 26 girls of Nari Niketan in Poonch
In a similar gesture, the army inaugurated ‘Asha Bakery’ to provide employment to women in Akhnoor area of Jammu.

23. The Indian Army extended a helping hand to the destitute and women to make them self-reliant and a productive part of the society. Indian Army in Krishna Ghati sector has reached out to Nari Niketan orphanage in Poonch’s Mendhar, which has 26 girls and four widows,” The army will take care of the girls until they become financially independent. said defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand.

24. CRPF Changes Name, Decides Date of Its Anniversary Day to Avoid Clash With Indira Death Anniv, Bad Weather. The Central Reserve Police Force will henceforth celebrate its anniversary on March 19 every year instead of on different dates every year, rechristening the occasion as ‘CRPF Day’. The parade held to mark the occasion will also be called ‘CRPF Day Parade’ instead of ‘Anniversary Day Parade’

25. The Exercise Paschim Lehar is conducted to enhance the cooperation among the different naval commands in the Indian Navy. It involves Indian Army and Indian Air Force as well. Recently, the exercise was conducted in the west coast.

26. The exercise was held for twenty days. It was conducted to enhance the operational cooperation among Indian Army, Indian Navy and the Coast Guard. The western command of Indian Navy participated in the exercise. The headquarters of the western command is situated in Mumbai. The headquarters of eastern naval command is located in Vishakhapatnam. The headquarters of southern naval command is located in Kochi.

27. Paschim Lehar 2022
More than 40 ships and submarines participated in the exercise. Also, the Indian Air Force deployed SU 30 MKI, flight refuelling aircraft and Jaguar maritime strike aircraft. The IAF also deployed unmanned aerial system, dornier aircrafts, P8i, MiG 29K and IL 38 SD.
After a long time, the air cushion vehicles of Indian Navy participated in the exercise. Also, the air defence batteries were mobilised.
