Three spacetech start-ups Dhruva Space, Bellatrix Aerospace and TM2Space are reportedly set to launch their payloads aboard Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) upcoming Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) – C58 XPoSat Mission next Monday. These payloads are destined for the PSLV Orbital Experimental Module (POEM-3) on the launch vehicle, scheduled to lift off from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

6. Hyderabad-based Dhruva Space will launch its LEAPTD to demonstrate the microsatellite subsystems. Bangalore-based Bellatrix Aerospace will deploy two payloads, which include Rudra 0.3 HPGP and ARKA 200.

ISRO recently completed another series of Testing of its Scramjet engine. Earlier ISRO tested it with Hydrogen as fuel now using Kerosene (Isroscene) as fuel. Kerosene reduces overall volume and more suitable for long duration flight.

7. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur will release the Official Government of India Calendar for the year 2024 at a programme in New Delhi.

8. Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav launched the National Transit Pass System (NTPS) pan-India to facilitate the seamless transit of timber, bamboo, and other forest produce across the country.

9. A historic tripartite peace accord was signed between the Centre, Assam Government and the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) in New Delhi. The deal is intended to bring lasting peace in the North East region.

13. TELANGANA state government’s traffic challan discount offer, providing up to 90 per cent off on pending fines in some cases, has evoked a huge response, with over 9.61 lakh challans cleared across the state within just three days.

1. Atleast 20 passengers from Gujarat who were on the Nicaragua-bound flight which was sent back mid-route from France have been quizzed by police in a bid to unearth a suspected illegal immigration network operating from the state.

The Nicaragua-bound aircraft, an Airbus A340 carrying 276 passengers, was grounded in France for four days over suspected human trafficking. It landed in Mumbai in the early hours of December 26.

2. Govt. May Bring Law For Same-sex Marriage Rights, Says Justice Kaul: Retired Supreme Court judge Sanjay Kishan Kaul, who was part of the top court bench which refused to accord legal sanction to same-sex marriage under the existing laws, said on Friday the case was not strictly legal and involved social issues, and the government may introduce a law in future to grant them matrimonial rights.

3. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Delhi Chief Secretary, Drugs Controller General of India, and Delhi Police Commissioner over medicines in Delhi government-run hospitals and Mohalla Clinics, not meeting the requisite standards.

1. The Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal released a comprehensive “E-Commerce Exports Handbook for MSMEs” to boost overseas shipments by small businesses using online platforms.

3. The CBDT has released detailed guidelines clarifying issues regarding Section 194-O of the Income Tax Act mandating a 1% Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) by e-commerce companies.

4. Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is set to spearhead a fundraising round worth Rs 2,500 crore for the Sustainable Energy Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) supported by the Mahindra Group.

5. TATA POWER SECURES RAJASTHAN TRANSMISSION PROJECT: Tata Power has emerged victorious in the bid for the Bikaner-III Neemrana-II Transmission project, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) established by PFC Consulting, a subsidiary of Power Finance Corporation. The estimated cost of the project is ₹1,544 crore, with a targeted commissioning period of 24 months from the date of the project SPV transfer.

6. India, the world’s third-largest energy consumer, recently made a significant move by conducting its first-ever payment in rupees for crude oil purchased from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This move is seen as part of a broader strategy to diversify oil suppliers, reduce transaction costs, and position the Indian rupee as a viable trade settlement currency.

7. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has granted approval to ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company Ltd (ICICI AMC) for the acquisition of up to 9.95% stake in Federal Bank.

1. Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam founder-leader and top yesteryear Tamil action star, Vijayakanth was on Friday laid to rest here with full state honours. After Vijayakanth’s family members performed the last rites, the coffin, made of sandalwood was buried in the designated space amid chants of ‘captain’ and veera vanakkam (valourous salute).

Vijayakanth’s wife Premalatha, his sons Vijaya Prabhakaran and Shanmuga Pandian were consoled by the leaders.

2. Thalapathy Vijay was attacked at Vijaykanth’s funeral in Chennai on Friday. The Tamil actor joined the film fraternity to pay his last respects at the funeral. However, an angry mob of mourners attacked Vijay, with one even hitting him with a slipper. Vijaykanth died on Thursday, December 28. The 71-year-old actor turned politician was on ventilatory support after testing positive for Covid-19.

5. The former Indian Naval officers whose conviction has been reduced to jail terms in Qatar can serve their sentence in Indian prison due to an earlier agreement between New Delhi and Doha, senior advocate Adish Aggarwala said.
