42 passenger trains cancelled to make way for coal carriages amid power shortage

4. Indian railway has cancelled some 42 passenger trains to allow for faster movement of coal carriages as the nation scrambles to replenish depleting inventories at power plants in a bid to avoid a full-blown power crisis.

5. PM Modi will participate in the inaugural session of the Joint Conference of Chief Ministers of the States and Chief Justices of High Courts @ 10 AM today. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.

6. *ANDHRA PRADESH* court has awarded death sentence to a man who was found guilty of murdering a B. Tech student last year.

Court found the accused Kunchala Sasikrishna guilty of murdering Nallapu Ramya, a B.Tech student who was stabbed to death on August 15, 2021.

7. *KARNATAKA* : PM Modi inaugurated Semicon India Conference-2022 through video conferencing. The three-day event is taking place in Bengaluru on 29 Apr.

8. *MAHARASHTRA* : BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis dismissed reports of BJP’s alliance with Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). Fadnavis said there was no such proposal. “Yes, Raj Thackeray took issues of loudspeakers…that has been our issue…but alliance talks are false,” he said.

9. *MANIPUR* CM N. Biren Singh and his cabinet ministers have expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reportedly announcing that the Centre is working towards lifting the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from the Northeast region as law and order situation has improved.

10. *PUNJAB* CM Bhagwant Mann ordered an immediate inquiry into the Patiala clashes and directed the police department’s top brass that none of the culprits be spared. Tension prevailed after Shiv Sena members and pro-Khalistani activists clashed.

A curfew has been imposed in Punjab’s Patiala where violent clashes took place between two groups.

11. *RAJASTHAN* severe heatwave likely to continue for next two to three days hitting temperature above 40 degree.

12. *TAMIL NADU* CM MK Stalin on Friday urged PM Modi to accord permission to facilitate the early movement of food, essential goods and lifesaving medicines to the people of Sri Lanka.

13. *TELANGANA* : Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Friday inaugurated 12 National Highway projects worth Rs 8,000 crores and seven CRIF projects in Hyderabad.

14. *UTTARAKHAND:* Preparations are underway for the opening of the portals of Shri Badrinath Dham on May 18. The temple will open on Brahmamuhurt at 4.15 am on May 18.

According to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) posted robust growth of 10.4 percent during 2021-22 fiscal as compared to the corresponding period of the previous Financial Year.

Actress Kangana Ranaut, while speaking on the national language debate, said, “If you ask me which language should be the national language, then I think it should be Sanskrit.” “Sanskrit is older than Kannada, Tamil, Gujarati or Hindi. All these languages have come from Sanskrit. Then why hasn’t Sanskrit become the national language?” she added.

1. Lieutenant General Baggavalli Somashekar Raju will take over as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 01 May (Sunday). An alumnus of Sainik School Bijapur and National Defence Academy, he was commissioned in the JAT Regiment on 15th December 1984.

2. Army Chief General Manoj Naravane said, there has been a rise in incidents of military equipment from Afghanistan being seized in Kashmir. He said, when the previous Taliban regime was there in Afghanistan in the early 2000s, the Army had captured or killed Afghan terrorists in Kashmir also.

3. INS Gharial as part of Mission SAGAR IX reached Colombo. It delivered over 760 kgs of 107 types of critical lifesaving medicines.

4. The Indian Navy undertakes several deployments titled Mission SAGAR to assist friendly countries. Since May 2020, the Indian Navy has successfully concluded eight such missions, deploying ten ships to 18 Friendly Foreign Countries.

5. Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday shot down a drone along the India-Pakistan border in the area near village – Dhanoe Kalan of Amritsar Sector.
