Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the new Parliament building, seeking blessings from high priests of various ‘adheenams’ in Tamil Nadu with the holy sceptre in hand. He also installed the historic Sengol in the Lok Sabha chamber.

5. Addressing 101st episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his thoughts in his monthly radio programme yesterday on 28 May (Suday). PM highlighted the unique efforts of YuvaSangam in strengthening the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat among the youth.

PM also paid tribute to former Andhra Pradesh CM NT Rama Rao on his 100th birth anniversary.

6. ISRO to send its GSLV F12/NVS – 01 at 10.42 a.m. today on May 29 from 2nd launch pad at Sathish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.

This is the first of the second-generation satellites envisaged for the Navigation with Indian Constellation series. NVS series of satellites will sustain and augment the NavIC with enhanced features. NavIC offers two services one is the standard position service for civilian users and Restricted service for strategic users.

7. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur on a 2-day visit to Gujarat.

8. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has announced that the Bandra-Versova sea link will be known as ‘Veer Savarkar Setu’. Shinde made this announcement on the occasion of late Veer Savarkar’s birth anniversary.

9. An orange alert has been issued in parts of Rajasthan where intense thunderstorms are expected from May 28-30. The alert has been issued for districts of Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Alwar, Ajmer, Udaipur and Barmer divisions.

CRIME REPORT

1. In Manipur, security forces have gunned down around 40 suspected Kuki terrorists during encounters. 7 civilians and 2 police personnel were also killed in the encounters that took place in Sugnu assembly constituency. The terrorists set ablaze around 250 houses in the area.

Condemning the violence, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh called the Kuki militants as terrorists. he said the combined forces, including army and paramilitary personnel, have intensified operations against them.

2. Six people, including two children, died in a road accident after a car smashed through a lorry’s front in Karnataka’s Kushtagi on Sunday.

3. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal condemned the Delhi Police’s action against the protesting wrestlers, saying that such behaviour is “completely wrong”. Grappler Sakshee Malikkh had earlier hailed the day as a sad one for Indian sports.

1. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has penalised self-styled investment advisor Gunjan Verma for offering unregistered services since 2018, due to which a fine of ₹1 lakh has been imposed. She has also been told to refund all the money she charged her clients.

2. UPI transactions are likely to reach 1 billion per day by 2026-27, accounting for 90% of the retail digital payments in the country, as per a PwC India report. It said UPI accounted for 75% of total transaction volume in the retail segment during 2022-23

2. The CBI booked film producer Bunty Walia in an alleged bank fraud case that caused a loss of over ₹119 crore to IDBI Bank. The bank sanctioned a loan to his firm in 2008 for financing Sanjay Dutt-Bipasha Basu starrer ‘Lamhaa’.

DEFENCE

1. The interaction program was organised to bring all defence industries to one platform for understanding their concerns while increasing awareness on various industry-friendly initiatives and policies of DRDO Hyderabad.

2. The Government of India’s announcement that it will establish an Integrated Rocket Force (IRF) should bring relief to those who advocated it. The IRF is expected to be a tri-service organisation. The decision to develop an IRF geared for non-contact conventional warfare was first revealed and proposed in 2021 by former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat.

3. The sea phase of the second edition of the bilateral exercise ‘Al Mohed Al Hindi 23’, between the Indian Navy and the Royal Saudi Naval Force (RSNF) was held from May 23-25 off Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia.INS Tarkash, INS Subhadra and Dornier Maritime Patrol aircraft (MPA) participated in the exercise from the Indian side.

4. India was ranked seventh in the world in terms of military spending in 2015. It rose to fourth in 2021Defence in India is a critical strategic sector, that has witnessed significant development in the last nine years.
