1. Rajya Sabha takes up discussion on motion of thanks on President’s address; Both houses witness disruptions over NEET issue. The Lok Sabha was yesterday adjourned for the day while the Rajya Sabha faced three adjournments following opposition protest over the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.

2. In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra 2024 formally began yesterday with religious fervour in the upper Himalayas in south Kashmir. The first batch of pilgrims started from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas. They are expected to have Darshan on June 29.

After 2 decades, Odisha gets a chief secretary from outside the state : In Odisha on Friday state Government has appointed 1990-batch cadre IAS officer Manoj Ahuja as the new chief secretary after the retirement of incumbent Pradeep Kumar Jena on June 30. He has also been appointed as secretary of the general administration department.

9. Senior IPS officer Mahesh Chandra Laddha, who has been serving as inspector general of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was repatriated to his parent Andhra Pradesh cadre with immediate effect. He is likely to be appointed as AP intelligence chief.

10. Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri will take charge as the Foreign Secretary on July 15, the Government announced on June 28. Mr. Misri, who is a former Indian ambassador to China, will succeed current Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

1. In Jharkhand the CBI yesterday arrested three persons including Ahsanul Haque, Principal of Oasis School, Hazaribagh in the NEET paper leak case. The Vice Principal of the School Imteyaz has also been arrested. The CBI arrested them on the basis of evidence.

2. Cracking down on suspects involved in the 2021 Visakhapatnam Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence espionage case relating to leakage of classified defence information, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive searches at three locations in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

3. The Jharkhand High Court yesterday granted bail to former Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a money laundering case linked to land scam. Soren, the executive president of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 in connection with its investigation into the money laundering case.

4. The Director General of Railway Protection Force (RPF) Manoj Yadava launched the Sangyaan App, designed by the RPF Tech Team to provide in-depth information on three new Criminal Acts: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023. The app aims to educate and empower RPF personnel with comprehensive information on both new and old criminal laws, emphasizing their relevance to RPF operations.

5. Protests broke out at the Gandhi Medical College, Secunderabad, Telangana on Thursday after a whopping 715 of the 740 students who took the B.Sc Allied Health Sciences first-year examination conducted by the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) failed to clear it. The annual examination for the 2023-24 batch took place from April 20 to April 29 and results were announced on June 24. The students realised the unusually high percentage of failures when they compared the results.

6. The top UN human rights official on Thursday voiced concern over the use of anti-terror law in India to silence critics and urged authorities to drop cases against author Arundhati Roy over comments on Kashmir.

7. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against two former DGPs, Siby Mathews of Kerala and R. B. Sreekumar of Gujarat, and three other retired police officials in connection with the alleged framing of space scientist Nambi Narayanan in the 1994 ISRO espionage case.

Karnataka high court on Friday extended by two weeks its interim order restraining the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from arresting former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, against whom the probe agency has filed a chargesheet in connection with a case registered against him under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

1. Thirteen people died and four were injured when a Tempo Traveller hit a truck parked on the roadside near Gundenahalli Cross in Byadgi Taluk of Haveri district in Karnataka.

2. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government over the reported death of three workers inside a sewage treatment plant in Greater NOIDA.

3. At least one person was killed and six others injured after a portion of the roof in the departure area of Delhi airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed amid record rain. The tubular structure crushed cars, including cabs, shutting off entry into the building and leaving passengers stranded.

1. The Reserve Bank of India in its latest Financial Stability Report stated that the Indian economy and the financial system remain robust and resilient, anchored by macroeconomic and financial stability. The report that came out yesterday further highlighted that, gross non-performing assets ratio of the scheduled commercial banks fell to a multi-year low of 2.8 per cent and the net non-performing assets ratio to 0.6 per cent at end-March 2024.

2. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has projected a further improvement in the gross non-performing assets (GNPA) ratio of scheduled commercial banks (SCBs), estimating it to decrease to 2.5% by March 2025. This optimistic outlook is based on macro stress tests evaluating banks’ resilience against potential economic shocks.

3. The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) forecasts India’s GDP to surpass 7% and possibly reach 7.5% in fiscal year 2024-25, citing resilient domestic economic indicators and favorable global conditions.

4. State Bank of India (SBI) has successfully raised Rs 10,000 crore through its fifth infrastructure bond issuance. The bonds, with a tenure of 15 years and a coupon rate of 7.36% payable annually, garnered significant investor interest, oversubscribed nearly four times the base size of Rs 5,000 crore.

5. Mrs. Aksha Mohit Kamboj has been appointed as the Vice President of the India Bullion Jewellers Association (IBJA), effective from 22 June 2024.

1. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed six consecutive development trials of High Speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) ‘ABHYAS’ with improved booster configuration from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Odisha.

What is ABHYAS?
Abhyas is a High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT) being developed at ADE. It offers a realistic threat scenario for practice of weapon systems. Abhyas is designed for autonomous flying with the help of an autopilot, under development at ADE. Abhyas has RCS, Visual and IR augmentation systems required for weapon practice. Abhyas was successfully flight tested on 13 May 2019.

2. IIT-Jammu’s deep-tech start-up founded and mentored by Dr. Shanmugadas K. P., has won the Dare to Dream 4.0 Innovation Contest organised under the TDF Scheme by DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, to encourage start-ups and individuals to come up with innovative defence and aerospace technologies.
