CRIME REPORT
1. *JHARKHAND* : Special CBI Court in Dhanbad gives its verdict on Judge Uttam Anand murder case. Justice Rajinikant Pathak convicted both accused in the case, Lakhan Verma and Rahul Verma under sections 302 and 201 of IPC. Court will announce the quantum of sentence on 6th August.
2. The Supreme Court said that the mother being the only natural guardian of a child after the demise of the father has the right to decide on surname of the child. The SC said it is also the mother’s decision to give the child up for adoption. The remarks came while settling a dispute between a woman and her in-laws.
3. *PUNJAB* : A YouTuber named Ravinder Singh Vajidpur was arrested for uploading a “fake” post featuring Punjab Tourism Minister Anmol Gagan Maan. Vajidpur runs the ‘Khalsa TV Channel’ on YouTube. In a complaint to the police, Aam Aadmi Party worker Sukhwinder Singh alleged that the channel owner had uploaded a “fake” post, where Maan is purportedly seen criticising BR Ambedkar’s policies.
4. *KERALA*: A pastor named Jacob Varghese has been arrested in connection with alleged trafficking of minor girls. This comes after Railway Protection Force detained 12 minor girls who were brought from Rajasthan to Kerala without any documents. Four adults, including two who claimed to be parents, were also taken into custody. Varghese is a pastor of Ernakulam’s Karunya Charitable Trust.
5. *TAMIL NADU* : A 32-year-old man, Asif Muzabdin, was arrested in Tamil Nadu’s Erode for alleged links with ISIS after being grilled by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for over 10 hours.
6. *WEST BENGAL* : Trinamool Congress on Thursday suspended Partha Chatterjee, who has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a school jobs scam in West Bengal. He has also been suspended from the post of General Secretary, National Vice President and three other roles.
7. *DELHI* : Over 27 people were booked after hundreds of residents of Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh started quarrelling, pelting stones, attacking police vehicles and personnel and disrupting traffic on Wednesday night.

DEFENCE:
1. *The Indian Navy received two MH 60R multi-role helicopters from the United States at the Cochin International Airport* on 28 Jul (Thursday). The helicopters were delivered by the Special Air Assignment Mission Flight of the US Air Force.
The delivery of all the 24 MH 60 R multirole helicopters will be completed by 2025. The induction of these helicopters will significantly boost the integral Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capability of the Indian Navy.
The helicopters were part of the 24 MH 60 R Multirole helicopters being procured by India from the United States. Cost : ₹ 14,000 crore
The first 3 helicopters delivered last year in the US in 2021 are being utilized for training the Indian Navy crew. Another helicopter is scheduled to be delivered on August 22.
2. *IAF’s MiG-21 Fighter Aircraft Crashes in Rajasthan’s Barmer District; Both the pilots in the MiG-21 Trainer aircraft lost their lives in the crash*. A court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.
3. *DRDO has signed 1,464 technology transfer agreements with Indian companies till date.*

The Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) on 28 Jul (Thursday) delivered the country’s first indigenously-built aircraft carrier (IAC-1) to the Indian Navy which would induct and commission the vessel into service as the INS Vikrant.
The 262 metre long carrier is much larger and advanced than her predecessor and is powered by four gas turbines totalling 88 MW power and has a maximum speed of 28 Knots.
Built at an overall cost of close to Rs 20,000 crores, the project progressed in three phases of contract between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and CSL, which concluded in May 2007, December 2014 and October 2019, respectively.
