Along with the invitation letter, Yogi presented them with the Kumbh Mela logo, a kalash, related literature, and a New Year’s calendar and diary.
6. Bengaluru Police To Deploy 11,000 Cops For New Year Celebrations Security. The aim to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow in high-footfall areas. Celebrations are permitted until 1:00 am.
7. APSRTC has announced that it will run 2,400 special buses for those going from Hyderabad to Andhra Pradesh on the eve of Sankranti festival. The special buses will be available from January 9 to 13.
8. Rashtrapati Nilayam in Secunderabad is set to host Udyan Utsav, a flower and horticulture festival, from January 2 to 13. The show will be open between 10 am and 8 pm. President Droupadi Murmu had announced the festival during her winter sojourn.
9. The Haryana Cabinet on Saturday approved amendments in the Common Eligibility Test policy to remove the grant of five per cent bonus marks to certain candidates based on socioeconomic criteria for government jobs in Group C and D posts.
10. India’s first Undergraduate (UG) Minor Programme in Quantum Technologies, jointly launched by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the National Quantum Mission (NQM), is set to commence from the next academic session.
11. Palitana, a small city in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district, has made history as the first city in the world to officially ban non-vegetarian food. Known as an important Jain pilgrimage destination, this city implemented the ban to honour the Jain community’s religious principles, particularly their commitment to non-violence (ahimsa) and compassion for all living beings.

1. The Supreme Court pulled up the Punjab government for its failure to ensure the hospitalisation of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a fast-unto-death. Mr Dallewal has been fasting at Khanauri, a border point between Punjab and Haryana, since November 26 in support of long-standing farmer demands, including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, loan waivers, and agricultural reforms.
2. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has ordered an inquiry into the allegation that non-government people are collecting personal details of residents of Delhi for the proposed Mahila Samman Yojana.
3. Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi has directed the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) to investigate allegations of differential pricing by cab aggregators. They are allegedly charging different fares for the same rides on Android and Apple devices.
4. The Rajasthan government announced that nine out of the 17 new districts created by the previous government will be dissolved. Apart from this, the divisional status given to Pali, Banswara, and Sikar will also be abolished.
5. The National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson, Vijaya Rahatkar, has constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the alleged sexual assault incident at Anna University in Chennai. The Commission, in a statement, said that the two-member committee will examine the circumstances leading to the incident and assess the actions taken by the authorities.
6. A hardcore Naxalite, Deva Sumado Mudam, aged 27, who had a bounty of 7 lakh rupees on his head, surrendered to the police in Gondia district of Maharashtra. A resident of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, Deva has been involved in Naxalite activities from a young age.
7. The Enforcement Directorate conducted raids on different locations of former Member of Legislative Council and leader of LJP (Ramvilas) Hulas Pandey in connection of disproportionate assets case and illegal mining. The raids were conduted in Patna and in Bengaluru.
8. Sleuths of Bengal Police’s Special Task Force arrested five persons from Beldanga in Murshidabad for allegedly transporting illegal drugs worth Rs 30 lakh in an ICU ambulance. The arrested persons, all residents of areas adjoining Kolkata, were bringing the consignment from Alipurduar and the northeast to be sold in Kolkata before New Year’s Eve, cops claimed.

1. The 21st Third Eye Asian Film Festival will take place in Mumbai and Thane from the 10th to the 16th of January next year. A total of 61 films selected for the festival will be screened at Moviemax cinemas in Andheri, Sion, and Thane.
2. ‘Coolie’ movie starring superstar Rajnikanth in the lead role is among the most awaited Indian movies expected to hit theatres in 2025. The movie is apparently a mass entertainer directed by hit maker Lokesh Kanakaraj after the blockbusters ‘Kaithi,’ ‘Master,’ ‘Vikram’ and ‘Leo.
3. In a tragic accident, Marathi actress Urmila Kothare’s car ran over two labourers in Mumbai’s Kandivali area, killing one and seriously injuring the other. The actor and her driver were also injured in the accident.
4. The award-winning film All We Imagine As Light, directed by Payal Kapadia is all set to be available for streaming. The film will be available on Disney+ Hotstar starting January 3, 2025. This movie has won the prestigious Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. It also received significant recognition including two Golden Globe nominations.

1. The Haryana government approved the revision of the Ex-Gratia amount to be given to the families of battle casualties of Armed Forces personnel and Central Armed Police Forces personnel. The Ex-Gratia amount has been increased from 50 lakh to 1 crore rupees.
2. Indian Army and the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) offered their condolences on the untimely passing of Brigadier Amitabh Jha, who died due to health reasons on December 23.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has paid tributes to Brigadier Amitabh Jha of India, who was serving with the UNDOF at Golan Heights. Brigadier Jha was serving as Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) from April 2023 and had recently served as acting Force Commander of UNDOF in complex circumstances, following the fall of the Assad Government in Syria.
3. The Indian Army contingent comprising 334 personnel has departed yesterday to participate in the 18th edition of Battalion Level Joint Military Exercise Surya Kiran. The exercise will be conducted in Saljhandi, Nepal from the 31st of this month to the 13th of next month.
4. The Indian Air Force is inviting applications for the Agniveer Vayu Recruitment under the Agnipath Scheme. This opportunity is exclusively for unmarried Indian male and female candidates to serve in the Indian Air Force for a duration of four years. The online registration process will begin on January 7, 2025 and will close on 27 Jan. Exam will commence on 27 Mar 2025.
5. The Indian Army has installed a statue of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji on the bank of Pangong lake at an altitude of 14,300 feet, a region that is close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China in the eastern Ladakh sector. The Army’s Leh-based 14 Corps said.
6. INS Sarvekshak, the Indian Navy’s specialized hydrographic survey ship, arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius, on December 26, 2024. This visit marks the commencement of a joint hydrographic survey with Mauritian authorities, as confirmed by the Ministry of Defence of India.
