1. *The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has issued an advisory to investors* , cautioning them against investing in certain Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) listed on the SME segment of stock exchanges.

2. *Oil prices fell more than one and a half per cent on persistent concern over Chinese demand and elevated risks of a broader slowdown* . In the global crude market, Brent crude was trading 1.57 per cent down to trade at 78 dollars and 30 cents per barrel. The U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was trading 1.79 per cent down at 74 dollars and 18 cents per barrel when reports last came in.

Actor turned Politican Kangana Ranaut has received a legal notice ahead of the release of her upcoming movie Emergency. On Tuesday, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) sent a notice to the producers of the film, including Kangana, asking them to remove the trailer which was released earlier this month. Emergency has been postponed multiple times and is now scheduled to hit theatres on 6 September 2024.

1. India will commission its second nuclear-powered submarine with nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles as INS Arighat on Thursday, in a major step towards further strengthening its strategic deterrence capabilities.

The commissioning of the almost 112-metre-long submarine, armed with K-15 missiles that have a strike range of 750-km, will take place at the secretive ship-building centre in Visakhapatnam in the presence of defence minister Rajnath Singh and top national security and military officials.

2. Vice Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar NM, assumed duties of the Director General Project Seabird, with a charter to oversee largest defence infrastructure project currently progressing at the Karwar Naval Base, from Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, on 28 August 2024.

3. The Indian Army has announced a follow-on order for 73,000 additional SIG716 rifles from the US firm SiG Sauer, bringing the total number of these rifles to 1,45,400. This order follows Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent visit to the US and continues from a 2019 contract for 72,400 rifles acquired under a fast-track procurement route.

The Ministry of Defence initially awarded the contract due to delays in the local production of Russian AK-203 Kalashnikov rifles. The first lot of 72,400 SIG716 rifles was imported under a Rs 647 crore contract.

4. The Centre on Wednesday appointed IPS officer Rajwinder Singh Bhatti as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and IPS Daljit Singh Chaudhary as the chief of the Border Security Force (BSF). Chaudhary, 1990 batch IPS officer from the UP cadre, is presently working as Director General of SSB. The BSF guards India’s borders with Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
