delhi police files two firs against brij bhushan sharan singh

1. PM Modi on 28 April commissioned FM Transmitters of 100 Watt capacity at 91 locations across the country.

9. Jharkhand on Friday launched its first air ambulance services, which are set to operate from Ranchi and six other cities. This move will boost medical transport facilities by connecting it to other destinations in case of requirement.

10. The tourism department of the Goa government is set to hold the ‘Heritage Festival 2023’ from April 28 to 30 at Saligao village in North Goa.

11. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann announced that 10% of the total compensation for crop damage will now be given to labourers employed by farmers.

13. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde on Friday said the proposed refinery project at Barsu village in Ratnagiri district will not be implemented without the local people’s consent, and appealed for calm in the area.

14. Shirdi town and the Sai Temple will remain open as locals cancelled the shutdown scheduled in protest against the deployment of the CISF for temple’s security. The decision came after the state government promised to support residents against CISF deployment by filing an intervention application in the Bombay High Court. The strike was supposed to begin on May 1.

15. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee tweeted in support of protesting wrestlers. “We must all stand with the wrestlers who are protesting. They are speaking in one voice. Our sportspersons are the pride of our nation. They are champions. The guilty must be brought to book, irrespective of their political affiliation.

16. Scientists protest the NCERT’s decision to eliminate Darwin’s theory of evolution: Removal of Darwin’s theory of evolution by NCERT: More than 1800 scientists, and educators in India have criticized NCERT for their decision to eliminate Darwin’s theory of evolution.

17. Noted scientist and orator Dr N Gopalakrishnan passed away after collapsing on his way home. He was 68. He worked as a scientist at the Advanced Seismic Testing and Research Laboratory (ASTaR) of CSIR-SERC, before assuming charge as Director, CSIRCBRI.

CRIME REPORT

1. Supreme Court directed states/UTs to ensure that as and when any hate speech is made, they shall take suo moto action for registration of FIR even without complaints. The court made it clear that action shall be taken irrespective of religion of the persons who made the speech so that secular character of Bharat as envisaged by Preamble is preserved.

2. Jammu and Kashmir DGP ​Dilbag Singh said Chinese weapons were used for Army truck attack in Poonch, in which five soldiers were martyred, and the Dangri terror attack. Singh visited the Budh Khanari village in Rajouri, where a combing operation was launched to rule out the presence of terrorists. He also revealed six persons were arrested for allegedly helping terrorists.

3. Maharashtra government informed Supreme Court that it has decided to hand over the probe into the lynching of two sadhus and their driver in Palghar to CBI. The three people were dragged out of their vehicle and beaten to death by a mob that reportedly thought they were child lifters. The incident took place during COVID-19 lockdown in April 2020.

4. Delhi Police on Friday filed two FIRs against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh over alleged sexual harassment of female wrestlers after Supreme Court order. One of the two FIRs pertains to allegations levelled by a minor victim and it has been registered under POCSO Act, police said. The other FIR has been registered in relation to complaints by adult complainants.

5. Same-sex marriage is a blot on humankind and there is no need to accept a decision if it is legalised by the Supreme Court, said Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, Shankaracharya of the Puri Peeth. Nature will punish the judges if the judgement comes in favour of same-sex marriage.

6. Telangana High Court on Friday issued a Form-1 notice to summon Mohammed Azharuddin, then president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), to appear before it on June 23 in a contempt case filed against the cricket body for wilful disobedience in complying with court orders over allowing the Nalgonda District Cricket Association (NDCA) to participate in league matches.

7. Fresh clashes broke out between demonstrators and police personnel in Manipur’s Churachandpur town on Friday night, with the security forces using batons, tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the mob.

Manipur CM was scheduled to address a public meeting at Sadbhavna Mandap and inaugurate an open gym at PT Sports complex, both in New Lamka town.

8. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioned former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik for nearly five hours Friday in connection with its probe into the alleged insurance scam in the Union Territory which came to light after his statement that he was offered bribes to clear related files, officials said.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

1. A District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Indore in Madhya Pradesh has issued an order against a staffer of ed-tech firm Byju’s and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan for alleged ‘fraudulent behaviour’ and ‘unfair trade practice’ on the complaint of a woman who enrolled for coaching to become an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.

2. A Special CBI court in Mumbai acquitted actor Sooraj Pancholi ( son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab) from charges of abetting the suicide of actor Jiah Khan.

Jiah Khan was found dead at her suburban home on June 3, 2013. Special CBI court judge AS Sayyad, while pronouncing the verdict, said due to lack of evidence, the court holds Pancholi not guilty.

Sooraj Pancholi was accused of abetting the suicide of Jiah Khan based on a six-page letter, which was purportedly written by Khan who was found hanging at her residence. As per the Central Bureau of Investigation, the letter, which was seized by Mumbai police that began its probe on June 10, 2013, was written by Jiah Khan. The Mumbai Police booked Sooraj for abetment to suicide and arrested him in June 2013, releasing him on bail in July 2013.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh didn’t exchange a handshake with his Chinese counterpart General Li Shangfu during a bilateral meet on Thursday. In a video, he can be seen welcoming his Chinese counterpart with joined hands but not with handshake as he did to welcome his other counterparts. It’s the first visit by the Chinese Defence Minister following Galwan Valley clash.

2. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh holds bilateral meeting with Russian counterpart on the sidelines of SCO Defence Ministers meet.

3. An Indo-UK Joint Military Exercise
AJEYA WARRIOR – 2023: The 7th edition of the joint military exercise “AJEYA WARRIOR-23” is currently underway at Salisbury Plains in the United Kingdom from 27 April to 11 May 2023. This biennial training event with the United Kingdom alternates between the United Kingdom and India, and the last edition was held in Chaubatia, Uttarakhand in October 2021.

4. Sagar Defence Engineering (SDE), a Pune-based robotics start-up, will deliver 84 drone cameras to the Uttar Pradesh State Police Department. The new drones will assist in defining their plan of action before the deployment of forces, with a pre-survey of the situation and on-demand surveillance with advanced drone technology.

5. Ukraine will send Mi-17 helicopter engines and spare parts to Pakistan as a sign of their enhanced defence partnership.
