India reports 1,890 new Covid cases, highest in 149 days
The active cases increased to 9,433, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday.
States get Covid advisory as daily cases touch 1.5k , told to increase RTPCR tests. The health ministry and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) issued a joint Covid-19 advisory to states on Saturday directing them to maintain optimum testing levels to identify emerging hot spots, amid an upsurge in cases since mid-February.

1. Gangster-turned- politician Atiq Ahmed’s brother Khalid Azim alias Ashraf was brought to the Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh on Monday evening amid tight security arrangements.
2. New photo of Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh showing him relaxed and holding a beverage can along with his aide Papalpreet Singh surfaced on Monday. Officials said the photo was taken a day after the crackdown against Amritpal Singh was launched. Papalpreet Singh, who is said to be Amritpal’s mentor, was allegedly in contact with Pakistan’s ISI agency.

1. Old Pension Scheme: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has made a big announcement: Government will soon restore old pension scheme across the country for government employees.
Employees across the country areas demonstrating a lot regarding the Old Pension Scheme. It has also been implemented in many states. As of now, it is not being implemented at the level of the Central Government and there is no such discussion either. But, the Ministry of Finance is reviewing the Guaranteed Return in the New Pension Scheme, in which a plan is being made that the employees get the benefit of old pension in the New Pension Scheme itself.
2. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on March 27 said that it has imposed monetary penalties on six banks for violating rules and not complying with norms.
3. All credit card payments for foreign tours to be considered under LRS (Liberalised Remittance Scheme) and they escape tax collection at source.
The LRS was first introduced on February 4, 2004. It is a programme that allows individuals in India, including minors, to freely remit up to $2,50,000 per financial year (April-March) for a variety of permissible transactions.
4. Clean energy solutions provider Gentari, through its affiliate Amplus Power Supply Private, has signed an agreement with Tata Motors for the delivery of 5,000 units of e-commercial vehicles. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) is for three years. MoU includes the delivery of 1,000 units in the first year for deployment in cities, such as Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata.
5. Saudi Aramco, the world’s biggest oil producer, signed agreement to acquire a 10% stake in China’s Rongsheng Petrochemical in a $3.6-billion deal. Aramco would supply 480,000 barrels/day of Arabian crude oil to Rongsheng affiliate Zhejiang Petroleum and Chemical (ZPC) under long-term sales agreement. Aramco Overseas Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aramco, will acquire interest in Rongsheng.

1. According to the government, there are around 1.55 lakh vacant positions across three forces, with the majority in the Army.
(a) ARMY: Shortage of 8,129 officers in the Indian Army that includes includes Army Medical Corps and Army Dental Corps.
509 vacant posts in the Military Nursing Service (MNS), and 1,27,673 posts of JCOs and other ranks are vacant as well.
Civilian employees : 252 vacant posts in group A, 2,549 vacancies in Group B, and 35,368 in Group C.
(b) NAVY, there is a deficiency of 12,428 personnel. 1,653 officers, 29 medical and dental officers, and 10,746 sailors.
Civilian employees, there is a deficiency of 165 in Group A, 4207 in Group B, and 6,156 in Group C.
(c) Indian Air Force, there is a shortage of 7,031 personnel. 721 officers, 16 medical officers, 4,734 Airmen, and 113 Airmen of Medical Assistant.
