1. Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, chaired the annual review meeting with MDs and CEOs of Public Sector Banks in New Delhi.

2. Bihar is set to become one of the first states in India to establish a nuclear power plant. This initiative is part of the country’s new Nuclear Energy Mission. The government has allocated Rs 20,000 crore for this mission in the Union Budget for 2025-26. The objective is to establish at least one nuclear power plant in every state.

3. India launches Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan (DAJA) — a historic tribal empowerment campaign running from 15 June to 15 July 2025 — to bring welfare schemes and services to over 5.5 crore tribal citizens across 1 lakh+ villages, honoring tribal icon Birsa Munda.

Project Elephant: Census Phase-I Completed, In a recent review meeting held in Dehradun, the Ministry of Environment examined the progress of Project Elephant, with Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav highlighting key conservation strides. 9. The doors of the Kamakhya Temple reopened to devotees on 26 June 2025, marking the end of the four-day Ambubachi Mahayog. The festival, during which the temple remains shut, was observed from 22 June to 25 June, with the reopening on the morning of June 26 at 6 AM. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also extended greetings and blessings on the occasion.

10. Kolkata scientist Subhabrata Sen first Indian to win Royal Society of Chemistry’s Perkin Prize. Sen is presently a professor of chemistry at Shiv Nadar University. Sen’s winning project, dubbed the AEEon Collective, has developed a breakthrough technique called Alternate Electrode Electrolysis (AEE).

11. Assam is considering a policy that would give District Commissioners the power to approve or reject Aadhaar applications from individuals over 18, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said following a state Cabinet meeting on Friday.

12. A total of 180 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), which is 30 more than previous years, have been deployed for the security of annual Amarnath Yatra in Jammu division this year, a senior police officer said.

13. The Bonalu festival 2025 began on June 26 at the Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Temple atop Golconda Fort, Hyderabad, Telangana, The state government’s active involvement, including a ₹20 crore grant for temples, and the presence of prominent political leaders, underscores the festival’s significance. Devotees offer Bonam (a mixture of rice, jaggery, curd, and neem leaves) to Goddess Mahankali.

14. The East Coast Railway (ECoR) launches a dedicated mobile app, ‘ECoR Yatra’, ahead of Rath Yatra 2025, to offer real-time railway services, accommodation details, and passenger amenities for pilgrims visiting Puri, Odisha, between 25 June and 7 July 2025.

15. Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 Began yesterday.
According to the Hindu calendar, the festival falls on Dwitiya Tithi of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of the Ashadha month. The Jagannath Rath Yatra is a nine-day celebration schedule:

The incident occurred late Thursday night when around 19 Innova vehicles, arranged from Indore for the Chief Minister’s convoy, stopped to refuel at Shakti Fuels, a Bharat Petroleum petrol pump near Dhosi village.

7. Medical examination confirms gang rape of law student in Kolkata: The first-year student of South Calcutta Law College complained to the police that she was gang-raped inside the institution by an alumnus and two senior students of the institution on the evening of June 25. All three accused were arrested on Thursday. The medical examination of the 24-year-old woman was also conducted on the same day. The National Commission for Women has asked the Kolkata Police commissioner to submit a report within three days.

1. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, is scheduled to convene on July 1, 2025, to review two major defence procurement proposals crucial for bolstering India’s maritime and air defence capabilities.

(a) The first proposal, valued at approximately ₹44,000 crore, seeks approval for the indigenous construction of 12 advanced Mine Countermeasure Vessels (MCMVs) for the Indian Navy.

(b) Simultaneously, the DAC will consider a ₹30,000 crore proposal for the acquisition of three regiments of the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) system for the Indian Army.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Qingdao, China, for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting on June 27, 2025, marked a significant step in India-China diplomatic engagement.During his meeting with his Chinese counterpart, General Don Jun, Rajnath Singh presented a traditional Madhubani painting from Bihar, symbolising India’s rich cultural heritage and goodwill.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with his Russian counterpart Andrey Belousov on June 27, 2025, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Qingdao, China.The meeting was significant, taking place against the backdrop of Operation Sindoor and the heightened necessity for India to augment its defence production.
