1. The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Modi, on Wednesday approved four railway projects of the Ministry of Railways with a total cost of about Rs 12,328 crore, aimed at boosting passenger and freight connectivity and reducing logistics costs.

The projects include the Deshalpar–Hajipir–Luna and Vayor–Lakhpat new line in Gujarat, Secunderabad (Sanathnagar)–Wadi 3rd and 4th line in Karnataka and Telangana, Bhagalpur–Jamalpur 3rd line in Bihar, and Furkating–New Tinsukia doubling in Assam.

2. NHAI has launched ‘Project Aarohan’ in collaboration with Vertis Infrastructure Trust to support the education of children of toll plaza employees.

3. Government approves restructuring and extension of PM SVANidhi Scheme for street vendors till 2030; Also clears four major railway projects worth over 12,300 crore rupees.

1. The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), an influential Meitei organisation, expressed strong disappointment with the Independent People’s Tribunal report released by the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) on the ongoing Manipur conflict.

2. West Bengal Urdu Academy’s decision to invite Javed Akhtar as the chief guest for a mushaira in Kolkata has sparked protests from two Muslim groups. The Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and the Wahyahin Foundation have expressed their disapproval, claiming Akhtar has consistently “spoken against religion and God.” They are demanding that the invitation be rescinded.

3. A case was registered against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil on Wednesday by the Kerala police for various offences, including stalking and harassing women on social media.

4. A Delhi court has issued non-bailable warrants against former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent Vikash Yadav in an alleged abduction and extortion case involving a businessman.

5. Police on Wednesday allowed Maratha quota movement leader Manoj Jarange to stage a peaceful protest at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on August 29, restricting the number of supporters at the venue to 5,000.

6. At least four Naxals including three women were killed on Wednesday in an encounter in Gadchiroli district of eastern Maharashtra.

7. Police in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur have registered a first information report (FIR) against Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and others after a customer alleged being cheated over defects in his Hyundai Alcazar car purchased in 2022.

The FIR, lodged at Mathura Gate police station, was based on a complaint by advocate Kirti Singh (50). The complaint also names Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, citing their role as Hyundai brand ambassadors.

The pilgrimage to the shrine was suspended when the mountainside literally gave way and stones, boulders and rocks came hurtling down around 3 pm on Tuesday, catching people unawares.The landslide struck at a point about halfway along the winding 12-km trek from Katra to the shrine.

2. Param Sundari movie advance bookings have officially kicked off with 8,200 tickets already sold till 9 AM yesterday. The film, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, is one of Bollywood’s most awaited romantic dramas of 2025.

The film stars Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. Initially slated to release on 25 July 2025, the film is now scheduled to release on 29 August 2025.

1. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan released two landmark doctrinal publications – Joint Doctrine for Special Forces Operations and Joint Doctrine for Airborne & Heliborne Operations – during RAN SAMWAD Tri-service seminar at the Army War College in Dr Ambedkar Nagar, Madhya Pradesh on 27 August 2025.

2. The Indian army’s aviation wing on Wednesday landed a chopper on top of a crumbling building in Jammu, that was surrounded by floodwaters to rescue 22 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, three civilians and a canine, officials aware of the matter said adding that within an hour of the rescue, the building was swept away by the flood water.

3. India is finalising a $1 billion agreement with U.S. aerospace major General Electric (GE) for the supply of 113 F404-IN20 fighter jet engines, which will power the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) TEJAS MK-1A.

4. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 26 August 2025, commissioned two advanced multi-mission stealth frigates, INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri, into the Indian Navy at the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam.

5. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is preparing to bid farewell to one of its most iconic fighter jets, the MiG-21, after serving as the backbone of the nation’s air combat capability for more than six decades.
