1. The govt will take a considerate decision on cryptocurrency regulation but it can’t be rushed through, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.
2. The Labour Ministry issued a notice to Infosys to hold a joint discussion on April 28 regarding the enforcement of the non-compete agreement. The agreement bans ex-employees from working for same customers in rival firms for six months. This comes after Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), an IT union, filed a complaint with the Ministry seeking the clause’s removal.
3. Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) on Wednesday reported an 8.6% rise in its profit after tax from ₹2,143 crore in Q4 FY21 to ₹2,327 crore in Q4 FY22. Its profit in FY22 rose 10.9% YoY to ₹8,818 crore.
ENTERTAINMENT:
Adivi Sesh-starrer ‘Major’ has been postponed again and now will release on June 3. Previously, the film was slated to release on May 27. However, the actor announced on Twitter that the release has been pushed by a week. The film’s release date had earlier been postponed due to the pandemic. The film will now clash with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Prithviraj’.
DEFENCE:
1. Australian Chief of Defence Force General Angus Campbell called on Indian Army chief General MM Naravane on Wednesday and discussed ways to strengthen the defence cooperation between the two countries.
2. India-Australia defence cooperation continued to expand during the year 2021-22. Australia participated in Exercise Malabar along with India, US and Japan. India was invited for the first time to observe the bi-annual Australia-USA bilateral Exercise Talisman Sabre 2021.
The fourth edition of bilateral maritime Exercise AUSINDEX between the Indian Navy and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) was held on 6-10 September 2021 off Australia’s Northern Territory coast.
3. US manufacturer Boeing announced it would be deploying two F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet fighters to an Indian Navy test facility in Goa for flight trials. The Rafale Marine is the carrier-borne variant of the Rafale fighter, which is already in service with the Indian Air Force.
4. Commander of US Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral John Aquilino, called on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Wednesday. This comes in the wake of the India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue on April 11 where the US had supported India as a defence industry leader in the Indo-Pacific.
