1. Parliament has passed the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024 with the Rajya Sabha approving it yesterday.

The Lok Sabha has already passed the bill. The bill seeks to amend the Reserve Bank of India Act 1934, the Banking Regulation Act 1949, the State Bank of India Act 1955, the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Act 1970 and the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertaking) Act 1980. The Bill seeks to increase the option for nominees per bank account to four, from existing one.

2. The Government of Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Indian Chamber of Commerce, is organising the 7th ACT EAST BUSINESS SHOW from 25 March to the 27th of March at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.

3. Medium Term and Long Term Government Deposit (MLTGD) components of Gold Monetisation Scheme (GMS) will be discontinued from 26 March 2025.

4. Airbus is strategically focusing on India, recognising it as one of the fastest-growing civil aviation markets globally. 1. Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy carried out a successful flight test of the indigenously developed Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.

2. Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed contracts for procurement of 155mm/52 Calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems and High Mobility Vehicle 6×6 Gun Towing Vehicles to enhance Indian Army’s operational readiness. The contracts were signed with Bharat Forge Limited and Tata Advanced System Limited in New Delhi at a total cost of about 6 thousand 900 crore rupees.

3. On March 26, 2025, GE Aerospace delivered the first of 99 F404-IN20 engines to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the TEJAS MK-1A.This delivery marks a significant milestone in the four-decade partnership between GE and HAL.

4. India’s defence sector has marked a significant achievement in the financial year 2023-24, with domestic production reaching a record ₹1.27 lakh crore. This represents a remarkable 174% increase since 2014-15.

5. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has recently entered into a significant contract valued at ₹4,362.23 crore with the Ministry of Defence for the supply of armaments to the Indian Armed Forces.

6. The Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE) in Kanpur has developed innovative anti-mine boots designed to protect soldiers from the dangers of landmine explosions and sharp spikes hidden in the terrain.

In a significant enhancement of India’s defence capabilities, the Indian Army and Air Force are set to acquire land-attack BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, which can strike targets at a range exceeding 800 kilometres.This acquisition involves approximately 250 missiles and has been approved by the Defence Acquisition Council, pending final clearance from the Cabinet Committee on Security.

8. The Indian Cabinet is poised to approve a significant deal worth ₹45,000 crore for the acquisition of 145 Light Combat Helicopters (LCH), also known as Prachand, from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).This procurement aims to bolster the capabilities of both the Indian Army and Air Force.
