1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu will address the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, where she is expected to unveil the priorities of the newly-elected government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

2. Senior BJP MP Om Birla was today elected as the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha for the second consecutive term. He was elected with voice vote as the opposition did not press for voting in the House for its candidate Congress MP K. Suresh.

3. Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that the government is firm in its commitment to make India a drug-free nation and is pacing towards achieving this goal with a whole-of-government approach.

4. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has launched the Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao (SABB) initiative under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, running from July 1 to 31 August, 2024.

9. In, Tamil Nadu the Regional Met department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Nilgiris district and Ghat areas of Coimbatore district for the next seven days.

10. In Kerala, the IMD has issued orange alert in seven districts of the state, indicating isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

11. In Goa, the IMD has issued a yellow alert of heavy rainfall to very heavy rainfall with strong surface winds till June 29 at isolated places over the state.

12. Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner in a press release announced that all Anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary and high schools in the district shall remain closed on 27 June 2024. This decision comes in response to the Red Alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department and Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre indicating a high possibility of extremely heavy rainfall for Thursday.

20. Uttar Pradesh state has started building the world’s first center for protecting and raising the Asian king vulture, also called the red-headed vulture, in Maharajganj. The species has been on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List since 2007.

1. A Delhi court yesterday sent Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to three-day CBI custody, hours after he was arrested by the agency in connection with a money laundering case.

2. Ministry of Corporate Affairs has refuted recent reports claiming that Byju’s has been cleared of financial fraud in an ongoing investigation by it. The Ministry categorically clarified that such reports are factually incorrect and misleading.

3. A team of CBI reached Oasis School in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand to investigate the NEET paper leak case.

4. An accused in the NEET-2024 exam scam was arrested by Latur police, Maharashtra. The name of the accused is Sanjay Jadhav. He was produced before the court yesterday and was remanded to police custody till 2nd July.

Ministry of Labour and Employment has sought a detailed report from the Labour Department of the Tamil Nadu Government after media reports claimed that married women are not being allowed to work at Foxconn India Apple iPhone plant. The office of Regional Chief Labour Commissioner has also been directed to furnish the factual report on the matter to the Ministry.

6. Directorate of Enforcement (ED) sleuths have searched for 11 locations in and around Hyderabad under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, recently in connection with irregularities in Operation Mobilisation (OM) group of Charities.

7. Bombay high court on Wednesday refused to interfere with a decision taken by a city-based college to impose a ban on hijab, burka and naqab, observing that such rules do not violate students’ fundamental rights.

1. Kotak Mahindra Bank in India plans to expand its branch network by 175 to 200 branches in FY25. This decision comes despite recent regulatory restrictions from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on digital customer acquisition and credit card issuance due to IT-related issues.

2. The Comptroller and Auditor General of India inaugurated the ‘Chadwick House: Navigating Audit Heritage’ Museum at Shimla on 24 June.

3. State Bank of India plans to open 400 new branches in 2024-25 to enhance customer service, particularly in emerging sectors like wealth management. In the previous fiscal year, SBI opened 137 branches.

4. State Bank of India (SBI) paid a Rs 6,959 crore dividend to the government for FY 2023-24, declaring Rs 13.70 per share. Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) presented a Rs 857 crore dividend, declaring Rs 1.40.

The dividend cheque was presented by SBI Chairman Dinesh Kumar Khara to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in the presence of Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi.

5. Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB), a regional rural bank sponsored by Canara Bank, has been honoured with a national award by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).

6. Capital markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is investigating Sanjiv Bhasin of IIFL Securities, for his part in an alleged market manipulation.

7. Banking industry experts on 25 June warned that the Telangana government’s recent announcement of a farm loan waiver could lead to asset quality issues and hit the credit culture of a wider section in other states who may make similar demands. A loan waiver simply means the government asking banks to write off the dues of a large number of borrowers at one go.

On 21 June Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy announced that up to Rs 2 lakh each owed to banks by farmers in the state would be forgiven. Following this, farmers in states like Punjab and Maharashtra too have raised similar demands.

1. In Jammu and Kashmir, three terrorist were killed in an encounter with security forces in a forest area in Doda district yesterday. Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that the gunfight started in Bajad village in Gandoh area of the mountainous district Doda.

4. *Defence Ministry signs 350th contract under iDEX for miniaturised satellite*: The 350th contract under the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), the flagship initiative of the Ministry of Defence was signed with SpacePixxel Technologies Pvt Ltd for the design and development of a ‘miniaturised satellite capable of carrying electro-optical, infrared, synthetic aperture radar, and hyperspectral payloads up to 150 kgs’, the defence ministry announced on Tuesday.

5. The Centre has sanctioned a 1,700-member armed security force from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for the upcoming Noida international airport, scheduled to commence operations in April 2025.
