1. Nation celebrated the 77th Republic Day showcasing country’s cultural diversity, economic progress and military strength in a magnificent parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi yesterday.
2. Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path highlights unique blend of India’s cultural diversity and military prowess.
This year’s theme ‘ Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram’ and ‘Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat ’.
The parade showcased India’s heritage, progress, and military strength. 30 tableaux participated: 17 from States and Union Territories. 13 from Ministries and Services.
3. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the six-day national culture and tourism festival Bharat Parv 2026 at the Red Fort in New Delhi.
4. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the government is working to ensure 100 per cent procurement of pulses including toor, masoor and urad at the Minimum Support Price to guarantee fair returns to farmers. He said this while interacting with the farmers specially invited by the Government on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day in New Delhi.
5. Prime Minister’s flagship platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, PRAGATI, has marked a significant milestone with the successful conduct of its 50th meeting. Since its launch by PM Modi in 2015.
PRAGATI has transformed governance by enabling real-time monitoring and resolution of key infrastructure projects and public grievances through direct Prime Ministerial review. The platform exemplifies cooperative federalism, bringing together the Centre, States, and Union Ministries on a single digital interface.
6. Telangana PG medical admissions 2025: The Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) has announced an extension of the free exit deadline for non-service candidates admitted to PG Medical Degree and Diploma courses under the Competent Authority Quota, CQ for the academic year 2025-26 till 30 Jan.
7. Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, on Monday launched two major bamboo sector projects worth ₹82.5 crore in Guwahati, reinforcing the Centre’s focus on livelihood generation, sustainable industry, and economic integration of the North Eastern Region with national markets.
8. The Beating Retreat Ceremony marks the formal conclusion of India’s Republic Day celebrations. Held at Vijay Chowk, New Delhi, it showcases military band performances and reflects a centuries-old military tradition symbolising the end of combat.Historically, the Beating Retreat traces its roots to European military traditions, especially in 17th-century England.
9. A cycle rally titled “Sundays on Cycle” was organised at Karaikal in Puducherry. The cycle rally was led by the Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Labour & Employment, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya.
10. India Meteorological Department, IMD has forecast cold wave conditions in parts of Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh for the next three days.

What is the “Mini Constitution” of India?
The 42nd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1976 is popularly known as the “Mini Constitution” of India.
Why is it called the Mini Constitution?
Because this single amendment made large-scale and far-reaching changes to the Indian Constitution, affecting:
(a) It amended the Preamble, Fundamental Rights, and Directive Principles.
(b) It reshaped Centre–State relations.
(c) It curtailed the powers of the Supreme Court and High Courts.
(c) It introduced Fundamental Duties for citizens.
(d) One of the most symbolic changes was made to the Preamble.
(e) The words “Socialist” and “Secular” were added, redefining India’s ideological identity.
The phrase “Unity of the Nation” was replaced with “Unity and Integrity of the Nation”.

1. Newly raised Bhairav light commando battalion and Shaktiban Regiment, rocket launcher system ‘Suryastra’ with deep-strike capabilities, a mixed scouts contingent, the 61 Cavalry walked on the Kartavya Path for the first time at the 77th Republic Day Parade.
2. The Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police conducted a joint training exercise at Sigar in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, enhancing inter-force combat synergy and operational integration. The six-day intensive exercise, Agni Pariksha, was held from January 19 to 24, focused on strengthening jointmanship between the forces.
3. The Indian Army is raising 15–20 Shaktibaan regiments equipped with swarm drones, loitering munitions and long‑range UAVs for strikes from 5 to 500 km. This drone‑led warfare integrates unmanned systems into artillery, enabling precision, scalable combat with minimal human risk. Initial units are operational, with Solar Defence, Adani and RapheM as contenders for the Rs 2,000 crore project.
4. India’s Tejas Mk-2 fighter aircraft has been officially renamed as the LCA Mk-2 (Medium Weight Fighter – MWF).

Lieutenant Colonel Sita Ashok Shelke has been selected for the Subhas Chandra Bose National Award for Disaster Management 2026 in the individual category for her outstanding work in the field of disaster management. The award is usually presented on 23 January, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

1. A tableau dedicated to Indian cinema was presented on 26 January 2026, during the Republic Day parade in New Delhi. This event realised a suggestion made by late actor Rishi Kapoor in 2020, when he urged the government to honour the film industry with a prominent place in the celebrations.
The tableau, themed ‘Bharat Gatha,’ was created in collaboration between the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, marking the first time an Indian film director led such a presentation at the national celebration.
2. Veteran actor Arun Govil, who is forever remembered as Lord Ram from the iconic TV series Ramayan, is all set to return in a powerful new avatar. He will soon be seen playing the role of King Dashrath in filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited epic film Ramayan.
3. Sunny Deol recently met the family of Param Vir Chakra awardee Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, whose bravery is portrayed in the film Border 2 by Diljit Dosanjh. Sharing a photo on Instagram, the actor wrote a heartfelt note, describing the meeting as “warm and memorable” and praising the courage and legacy of Sekhon and his family.
