1. Over 59% voter turnout recorded in 58 constituencies in sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections. Voting also held for third phase of Assembly Elections in Odisha.

2. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and several other famous faces were seen at polling booths, exercising their franchise in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha polls on Saturday.

3. India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Cyclone Remal likely to make landfall between Bangladesh and West Bengal coasts by today midnight. Remal, a name given by Oman as per the naming system for cyclones in the north Indian Ocean region. Remal means sand in Arabic.

4. Chief Election Commisisoner Rajiv Kumar has appealed to the voters to participate in the largest festival of democracy.

5. The Karnataka government has mandated a 33% reservation for women in outsourced government jobs. This aligns with existing quotas for permanent positions and applies to jobs lasting more than 45 days and involving over 20 employees.

6. Heavy rain expected to ease in Kerala, yellow alert in 7 districts.

7. The state government in Rajasthan is set to review the reservation in jobs and education granted to Muslims under the Other Backward Class (OBC) category. A high-level committee is likely to be appointed soon for examining the classification of certain Muslim groups as OBCs in the State and submitting its recommendations to the government.

8. Maharashtra Board to declare SSC Result 2024 on May 27 at 1 PM. Over 15 lakh candidates appeared for Class 10 exams. Results on mahresult.nic.in.

1. A police station was vandalised in Channagiri town in the district and several vehicles were set on fire by a violent mob over an alleged custodial death on Saturday. Adil, (30), was detained on 24 May for his alleged involvement in gambling activities in the district, police said adding his health condition deteriorated and he died on Friday night. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the Deputy Superintendent of Police and the Channagiri police station inspector have been suspended following the attack.

2. Pune Porsche crash case : Pune police in Maharashtra on Saturday arrested the grandfather of the 17-year-old involved in a car crash that killed two persons while claiming that both the teenager’s father and grandfather put pressure on the family’s driver to take blame for accident by offering him money and giving threats.

The teenager’s grandfather was arrested for ‘illegal confinement’ of the driver, and a court subsequently remanded him in police custody till May 28. The minor’s father, in judicial custody in another case registered in connection with the 19 May accident.

3. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has once again initiated action, leading to the removal of loudspeakers from religious places in Shajapur city on Saturday. Around 77 loudspeakers have been taken down from 77 religious sites.

1. At least 27 persons, including four children, were killed in a massive fire that swept through a game zone teeming with people enjoying a summer vacation outing in Gujarat’s Rajkot city on Saturday evening.

2. At least 11 people died and 10 were injured after a truck turned turtle on top of a bus carrying devotees to Uttarakhand on Saturday late at night.

Truck loaded with ballast stones hit the parked bus at a roadside dhaba and overturned on it, crushing the devotees to death. All the devotees traveling in the bus were residents of Jetha village located in Kamlapur police station area of Sitapur district.

3. Six babies have been killed and several others injured after a massive fire that broke out at a children’s hospital in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area on Saturday night. Incident took place at Baby Care Centre, near ITI, Block B of Vivek Vihar area.

1. Google, through its parent company Alphabet, is considering setting up its drone manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu, India, as part of its expansion plans into the Indian market. If all things go as per Google’s plan, the tech giant will export the drones it makes in India to countries like the US and Australia.

2. The State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has acquired Mercator Petroleum Limited (MPL) through an insolvency proceeding. The acquisition, valued at approximately Rs 154 crore, was approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) under the relevant provisions of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.

1. Anasuya Sengupta creates history becoming the first Indian to win Best Actress at Cannes Film Festival . Anasuya Sengupta is an Indian actress and production designer. She has established a career in the film industry, as well as winning the Performance Awards in the Un Certain Regard Award category at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

2. Payal Kapadia’s debut fiction feature ‘All We Imagine As Light’ on Saturday won the Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival . This also marked the first Indian film to compete for the Palme d’Or award in nearly three decades, the last being Shaji N Karun’s ‘Swaham’ in 1994.

1. General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), visited the Army Sports Institute (ASI) in Pune to inaugurate the newly established Army Girls Sports Company (AGSC). The event also featured a virtual inauguration of the AGSC for the Shooting discipline at Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), Mhow.

2. The Army Chief, General Manoj Pande, will superannuate on May 31, but the government is yet to name his successor. Normally, a successor for the Army Chief is named a couple of weeks in advance.Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Lt Gen Ajai Kumar Singh and Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani are the three seniormost officers.

3. The Navy has changed names of ‘Jackstaff’ and ‘Jack’ on board ships to ‘National Flag Staff’ and ‘National Flag’.

‘Jack’ refers to a flag in naval parlance, usually the national flag, and ‘Jackstaff’ is a short pole on the bow of a ship from which it is flown. Both terms have their origins in British naval traditions.

4. Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Anil Chauhan visited Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment (ASTE) and Air Force Test Pilots School (AFTPS) in Bangalore on 24 May 2024. A ceremonial Guard of Honour was accorded and he laid a wreath at the memorial which honours the supreme sacrifice made by the Indian test crew and scientists while undertaking flight testing.

Indian Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on Saturday reviewed the Passing Out Parade at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, where 216 trainees, including 34 women cadets got commissioned into the Indian Navy.10 foreign cadets from 5 countries – Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Maldives and Seychelles (all Indian Ocean countries) also passed out.
