1. The Speaker for the 18th Lok Sabha will be chosen today. Senior BJP MP Om Birla, who was also the Speaker in the last Lok Sabha, is the N.D.A. nominee for the post this time as well. On the other hand, the Opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc has fielded Congress MP K Suresh for the post. Both the candidates filed their nominations for the Speaker’s post for which the election is scheduled to be held today.
2. The oath taking process by the newly elected MPs in the 18th Lok Sabha was completed yesterday. Barring five MPs, all MPs took oath in the last two days of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha.

4. Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry is rolling out Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao initiative under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 from 1st July to 31st August. Haryana govt Increases Reservation for OBC Category from 15% to 27% : Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that the reservation for the backward classes in Group-A and Group-B posts, currently at 15 per cent, will be increased to 27 per cent, “in line with the Central government’s policy”. He was addressing a gathering at ‘OBC Morcha Sarv Samaj Samrasta Sammelan’ held in Gurugram.

1. The UP cabinet has passed the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination Ordinance 2024 to curb paper leaks. Under this ordinance, stringent provisions have been made for punishment against violators, which include punishment from 2 years to life imprisonment and a fine of up to one crore rupees.
2. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal remained in jail as the Delhi High Court yesterday stayed the trial court order granting him bail in an alleged money laundering case. CBI to produce Kejriwal in court on today (Wednesday).

6. Ram Temple Construction Committee chairman Nripendra Mishra on Tuesday rejected the allegations of the temple’s chief priest regarding the seepage of rainwater draining out of water from the sanctum sanctorum.
“There was no water leakage but the rainwater came down from the pipes fixed to install electric wires,” Mishra said.

1. The United States has been pushing for the sale of the Boeing F-15EX fighter jet to the Indian Air Force (IAF) as part of India’s plan to acquire new fighter jets. Boeing has received a license from the U.S. government to offer the F-15EX to the IAF. The F-15EX is a next-generation fighter aircraft developed by Boeing and is an upgraded version of the fourth-generation F-15 fighter jet.
2. The United Kingdom has been actively seeking India’s partnership in the development of the sixth-generation Tempest fighter jet program. The Tempest fighter jet is being developed as part of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) program by a consortium known as Team Tempest, which includes the Ministry of Defence, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce, Leonardo, and MBDA UK.
3. iDEX has launched 11 editions of the Defence India Start-up Challenge and recently unveiled the Acing Development of Innovative Technologies with iDEX (ADITI) scheme to promote innovations in critical and strategic defence technologies.
4. The first batch of 25 ‘Robo-Dog’ MULES is likely to be inducted by the Army soon.
The Army had signed a contract in September 2023 for emergency procurement of 100 such MULES MULES (Multi-Utility Legged Equipment) in the shape of dogs, which will be deployed for surveillance, and to carry light loads through steep and uneven terrain.
5. BrahMos cruise missiles inducted by the Philippines as a “game changer”, which provides credible capabilities, Philippines envoy Josel F. Ignacio said India was a major source for the modernisation of the Philippines armed forces which was under way.
6. INDIAN RAFALE FIGHTER PILOTS BEGIN JOINT EXERCISES IN GREECE : Indian Air Force Rafale fighter jets have been stationed at the 117 Fighter Wing in Andravida for days. The air base is feverishly preparing for NATO’s flagship Ramstein Flag exercise, which will be held for the first time outside Germany.
On Saturday, they carried out their first joint training with the Greek French-made Rafale and Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets of the 335 and 336 Squadrons from the 114th Fighter Wing.
7. Indian Air Force conducted a capstone seminar marking the culmination of the Number three Warfare and Aerospace Strategy Program, WASP at the Air Force Auditorium in New Delhi. The seminar with the theme “India’s Strategic Culture and Imperative for Contemporary National Security’ was conducted under the aegis of the College of Air Warfare and Centre for Air Power Studies.
8. Lt Gen NS Raja Subramani is set to be the next Vice Chief of Army Staff with the government clearing his appointment to the post.
The officer, who is presently helming the Army’s Central Command, will succeed Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi. Lt Gen Dwivedi, currently serving as the Vice Chief, will be the next Chief of the Army Staff when incumbent Gen Manoj Pande retires on 30 June.
9. In Ladakh, as a tribute to the heroes of the Kargil War, the Indian Army has opened the Khalubar War Memorial to tourists. This opening ceremony was part of the ‘Forever in Operations’ Division’s Pre-Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations as this year, the country will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26 July.
