Nation celebrates 74th Republic Day

1. Nation to celebrate 74th Republic Day. RD Parade & Cultural Pageants from Kartavyapath & National war Memorial ceremony to begin from 9:40 AM.

2. President smt Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar & PM Modi conveyed greetings and best wishes to all citizens on the eve of Republic Day.

3. PADMA AWARDS 2023 ANNOUNCED: The list comprises
6 Padma Vibhushan,
9 Padma Bhushan and
91 Padma Shri Awards. 19 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 2 persons from the category of Foreigners and 7 Posthumous awardees.

Notably: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher order) and Padma Shri (distinguished service).

4. Today is Basant Panchami, Which is a festival dedicated to Goddess Saraswati. As Saraswati is the Goddess of wisdom and knowledge, students worship Her with immense fervour and zeal. The day of Vasant Panchami is also considered auspicious for initiating studies in young children. This tradition is called ‘’Vidya Arambham’ or ‘Akshar Abhyasam’.

16. The Kerala Health Department recently confirmed two cases of the gastrointestinal infection Norovirus in class 1 students in the Ernakulam district. The Norovirus, also known as the “winter vomiting bug,” causes vomiting and diarrhoea.

CRIME REPORT

1. Naxal commander, Naveen Yadav alias Sarvjit Yadav, accused of killing 48 police and security forces personnel in Jharkhand and Bihar, has surrendered. The government had declared a reward of ₹25 lakh on him. Yadav, a resident of Bashutta village in Jharkhand’s Chatra district.

2. Maharashtra government has banned the use of vehicles with white number plates, called non-transport vehicles, for aggregation and carpooling. Use of non-transport vehicles for carpooling raises passenger security concerns.

1. The Government has approved a proposal for the sale of 30 Lakh Metric Tonnes of wheat under the Open Market Sale Scheme.

2. Adani Enterprises raises ₹6,000 crore from anchor investors
Adani Enterprises, whose follow-on public offer (FPO) will be opened for retail investors on Friday, has raised close to ₹6,000 crore from anchor investors. Around 1.82 crore shares were allocated to 11 institutional investors at ₹3,276/share.

The Elephant Whisperers, RRR, and Chhello Show are the four Indian movies up for Academy Awards in 2023.

4. Actress Raveena Tandon and ‘Naatu Naatu’ composer MM Keeravaani are among Padma Shri awardees from the field of art this year.

Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain has been bestowed with Padma Vibhushan. Singers Vani Jairam and Suman Kalyanpur have been bestowed with Padma Bhushan.

5. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Ameya Khopkar criticised theatre owners in Maharashtra on Wednesday for choosing to screen Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Pathaan’ over Marathi films.

DEFENCE

1. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) sought technical and commercial bids to add to the Army robotic mules, jetpack suits and tethered drones that will look across the Himalayas.

A tethered drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle tethered to the ground. Tethered drones provide a secure line of communication between the ground station and the aircraft.

2. DRDO-L&T developed Zorawar Light Tank (25 tonnes) that is under fabrication and will be “rolled out” soon. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) of the Defence Ministry recently accorded the approval for Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for purchasing 354 of these tanks through Make in India.

Why this Light Tank is named ZORAWAR?

He was a military general — Zorawar Singh Kahluria, and had served under Jammu’s Raja Gulab Singh in the 19th Century.
He is honoured for his conquests in the Himalayas including Ladakh, Tibet, Baltistan and Skardu.

3. President Droupadi Murmu has approved 412 Gallantry awards and other Defence decorations to Armed Forces personnel and others on the eve of the 74th Republic Day.

4. A total of 901 Police personnel have been awarded Police Medals on the occasion of the Republic Day, 2023.

5. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh has felicitated the 25 winners of Veer Gatha 2.0 at an event in New Delhi on the eve of Republic Day.

6. A total of 29 officers or staff of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs have been selected for grant of Presidential Award of Appreciation Certificates and Medals for Specially Distinguished Record of Service this year.
