5. Union Minister Chirag Paswan was re-elected as Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president for five years.

6. Maharashtra government gave its approval to implementation of revised National Pension Scheme for the officers and employees of the state government services on the lines of central government employees. It is approved for implementation with effect from March 2024. Millions of employees of the state government are expected to benefit from this scheme.

7. The Government is gearing up to host the inaugural World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES), aiming to bolster India’s Media and Entertainment industry and extend its global influence. The Summit will be being held in Goa from 20th of November to 25th of November this year. With the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw, launching 25 Challenges under the ‘Create in India Challenge – Season 1’ on Friday.

8. In Tripura, NDRF troops are carrying out rescue operation in the flood ravaged areas. Even on the 5th day of the first strike of floods in the state, 11 battalions of the NDRF are still on rescue and relief operations in South Tripura and Sepahijala districts which are severely affected due to floods.

9. AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is targeting to build a house for every homeless poor in Andhra Pradesh. Construction of 20 lakh houses would progress at a swift pace with a target of completing seven lakh houses this year.

10. The government of Telangana will establish a Sports University next academic year with an aim to produce sports persons who can win Olympic medals, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said on Sunday. The Chief Minister was speaking at the concluding programmes of the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon at Gachibowli Stadium.

11. Activist Prashant Kishor on Sunday said his Jan Suraaj will contest all 243 seats in next year’s assembly elections in Bihar and at least 40 candidates will be women.

12. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast extremely heavy rainfall in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Gujarat Region, Saurashtra, and Kutch.

1. CBI conducts searches at 15 places in Kolkata over ‘financial irregularities’ in R G Kar Medical College and Hospital.

2. In Kolkata, Sanjay Roy, the main accused and the lone arrested person in the brutal rape and murder case of the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital has undergone polygraph test.

3. Kolkata rape-murder case: The West Bengal school education department on Saturday issued show-cause notices to three schools “for involving students in a rally” during school hours amid ongoing protests over the rape and murder of a woman doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

4. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted searches in connection with the alleged fraudulent award of contracts worth about ₹118 crore from 2013 to 2016 by misappropriation of funds collected as cess for the welfare of construction workers in Assam.

5. The Kerala government on Sunday (August 25) formed a team of senior police officers to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct involving notable figures in the Malayalam film industry. This comes after Justice Hema Committee released a report which addressed the issues faced by women in the industry.

Actor Siddique resigned from his position as the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), and director Ranjith stepped down as chairperson of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy, in response to the allegations against them.

The trainer aircraft that went missing in Jharkhand was located on Sunday in the Chandil dam’s reservoir in Seraikela-Kharswan district. The aircraft, a Cessna-152, with a trainee and an instructor on board went missing on Tuesday after taking off from the Sonari aerodrome in Jamshedpur in East Singhbhum district.

The bodies of the instructor, Captain Jeet Satru, and trainee Subrodeep Dutta were found in the reservoir of the dam on Thursday.

The government has launched the UNIFIED PENSION SCHEME (UPS), aimed at benefiting 23 lakh central government employees. The new scheme will be implemented from 1 April 2025.

(a) Employees who have completed a minimum of 10 years of service are eligible to receive a pension under the UPS. However, the full benefits of the scheme, including the assured pension, apply to those with at least 25 years of service.

(b) The UPS guarantees a minimum pension of Rs 10,000 per month for employees who retire after completing at least 10 years of service.

(c) The scheme is optional for existing employees under the National Pension System (NPS) and those opting for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) under NPS. Future employees will also have the option to join the UPS. However, once an employee opts into the UPS, the decision is final and cannot be reversed.

(d) Retirees will receive 50% of their average basic pay over the last 12 months before retirement as a pension. This benefit is available to employees with at least 25 years of service, with proportionate benefits for those with shorter service periods (down to a minimum of 10 years).

(e) The government will increase its contribution to the pension fund from 14% to 18.5%. This increase does not affect the employee’s contribution, which remains unchanged.

(f) In case of a pensioner’s death, their family will receive 60% of the pension the retiree was receiving.

(g) At the time of superannuation, retirees will receive a lump-sum payment in addition to their gratuity, This payment will be equivalent to one-tenth of the monthly emoluments (pay + DA) as of the date of superannuation for every six months of completed service. Importantly, this payment will not reduce the amount of assured pension.

(h) The scheme will also apply to past retirees under the NPS who have already superannuated. These retirees will receive arrears for the past period, with interest calculated at Public Provident Fund (PPF) rates.

1. Actor Nagarjuna Akkineni on Sunday claimed that no land was encroached upon for construction of his N-Convention Centre in Hyderabad, which was demolished by authorities on Saturday.

The popular Telugu actor and producer also requested his fans and well-wishers not to indulge in speculation, rumours or misrepresentation of facts.

2. The National School of Drama (NSD) Repertory Company is celebrating 60 years of its contributions to Indian theatre by organizing a grand event named Rang Shashthi. 1. The Indian Naval Ship (INS) ‘Mumbai’ will arrive at the port of Colombo today (Monday) for a three-day maiden visit to Sri Lanka.

The IAF contingent with its five Sarang helicopters (ALH Mk1) being airlifted by C-17s for the Air Show at Al-Alamein Intl Airport from 3rd to 5th Sep 24. IAF Sarang team, flying the indigenous ‘Dhruv’ ALH, represents the spirit of ‘Atmanirbharta’ and showcases India’s aviation excellence.”

Earlier on August 14, the first phase of India’s largest multilateral air exercise ‘Tarang Shakti’ involving the air forces of Germany, France, Spain, and the UK concluded at Sulur in Tamil Nadu.

3. The BSF has sought the deployment of an additional battalion to check the onslaught of cross-border drones carrying drugs and ammunition and curb infiltration along the Punjab front of the India-Pakistan border.The force currently has about 20 battalions to guard the more than 500-kilometre-long front, out of which 18 are “actively deployed” at the border.
