9. The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MoSJE) and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) have introduced the National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE) scheme. Aimed at formalizing and rehabilitating manual scavengers, this scheme addresses the pressing issue of hazardous cleaning of sewers and septic tanks that has resulted in tragic deaths.

NO CONSTITUTIONAL FRAUD IN SCRAPPING ARTICLE 370′: Commencing their arguments in support of abrogation of Article 370 in the Supreme Court, the Centre’s top law officers Thursday asserted there was no “constitutional fraud” in annulling the provision that accorded special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

*The five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, which heard their contentions at length, told them they will have to justify the procedure adopted for abrogation as the court cannot postulate a situation “where the ends justify the means”.

1. Former Uttar Pradesh minister Amarmani Tripathi and his wife Madhumani, serving life sentences in the poet Madhumita Shukla murder case, were released on Friday evening, ahead of the completion of their terms.

1. Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Friday has signed a contract with Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam for acquisition of five Fleet Support Ships (FSS) for the Indian Navy.MoD said that the overall cost of the project is around Rs 19,000 crore.

2. Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane laid the keel of four Coast Guard Fast Patrol vessels (FPVs) on 25th August, 2023 at Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL).

3. Chief of the Naval Staff and Commandant of Philippine Coast Guard signed the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for exchange of White Shipping Information on 23 August 2023.

The signing of the SOP between Philippine Coast Guard and Indian Navy would facilitate the operationalization of information exchange on merchant shipping traffic, which will contribute to enhanced maritime safety and security in the region.

4. The cadets of units of NCC Group Hyderabad visited AOC Centre, Secunderabad during the ongoing Annual Training Camp on 25 August 2023. The cadets were addressed by Brig AA Deshpande, Commandant, AOC Centre. The motivational talk left the cadets in awe.
