1. President Smt Droupadi Murmu will be on a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh. She will grace the 2nd convocation of AIIMS, Raipur tomorrow. President Murmu will also grace the 14th convocation of NIT, Raipur and visit the Purkhauti Muktangan at Naya Raipur.
2. The weather agency has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over several districts of West Bengal and Odisha: The severe cyclone ‘Dana,’ formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal, is heading towards the Odisha coast. In West Bengal, East and West Medinipur, South and North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, Bankura, Kolkata, and Jhargram are expected to be most affected.
NDRF, SDRF, District administrations are on high alert to deal with emergency situations. Two ships of the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy are on standby with supplies and with rescue and diving teams.
3. The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24) has adopted eight new resolutions targeting emerging areas for standardization in telecommunications. These include Artificial Intelligence, Enhancing Standardization Activities on Digital Public Infrastructure, Sustainable Digital Transformation among others. The ten-day event of WTSA-24, which began on the 15th of this month in New Delhi concluded yesterday.
4. Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Jayant Chaudhary felicitated the winners of World Skills 2024 in New Delhi. Hailing the winners for their performance, the Minister said, they have honed their skills through hard work and perseverance.
5. The Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar will be on a two-day visit to Karnataka starting from today. On the first day of his visit, Shri Dhankhar will interact with students at Adichunchanagiri University in BG Nagara, Mandya, Karnataka. He will also visit Raj Bhawan in Karnataka.

7. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP – Sharad Pawar) announced its first list of 44 candidates for the Assembly Elections in Maharashtra. Yugendra Pawar, nephew of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, will challenge him by contesting from the Baramati constituency. Jayant Patil will contest from Islampur in Sangli.
8. Today is the last day for filing of nomination for the first phase of Assembly Elections in Jharkhand. Polling will take place on the 13th of November.
9. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved two rail projects with an estimated cost of 6,798 crore rupees to provide connectivity, facilitate ease of travel, and minimize logistics costs.
(a) The first project involves the doubling of 256 kilometre of railway line from Narkatiaganj to Raxaul, Sitamarhi, and Darbhanga and the Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur section.
(b) CCEA has given its nod to a new railway line for Amaravati, which is the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh. The project will connect Amaravati with major cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.
10. The Governing Board of the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has announced the appointment of Dr. Himanshu Pathak as the Director General-designate of the esteemed institute.
11. Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi has launched the retail phase of Bharat Chana Dal Phase II in Delhi-NCR, marking a significant step in the government’s commitment to provide essential food items at affordable prices.
12. Bihar’s Industry Minister Nitish Mishra inaugurated the state’s first dry port in Bihar, near Patna. This initiative aims to enhance exports of goods produced in Bihar, in partnership with a private company.
13. Indian Railways (IR) has envisaged to run 35 Hydrogen trains under “Hydrogen for Heritage” at an estimated cost of Rs 80 crores per train and ground infrastructure of Rs 70 crores per route on various heritage/hill routes. The trial of its first hydrogen-powered train is scheduled for December 2024. This initiative will make India the fifth country in the world to operate eco-friendly hydrogen trains, joining the ranks of Germany, France, Sweden, and China.
14. President Droupadi Murmu Thursday appointed Mazhar Asif, a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), as the 16th vice chancellor (VC) of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) university. The post had been lying vacant since November last year.
15. Justice Sanjiv Khanna was on Thursday appointed the 51st Chief Justice of India. He will take oath on November 11, a day after incumbent Justice DY Chandrachud demits office on attaining the age of 65.

1. A labourer from Uttar Pradesh was shot and injured by terrorists in the Tral area of Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir, on the morning of 24 October 2024. Today’s Google honored Singer Krishnakumar Kunnath or KK, with a Google Doodle. He was known for his romantic songs.
KK went onto establish himself as one of the leading singers of the 2000s with successful songs in various languages. His most popular songs include — “Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe” from Dil Chahta Hai (2001).
On 31 May 2022, KK performed a concert at a college festival at Nazrul Mancha in South Kolkata. After the concert, he returned to his hotel in Esplanade. KK complained of feeling unwell on the way back to his hotel, where he died due cardiac arrest.

1. The AK-203 assault rifle, a modernized version of the iconic Kalashnikov series, is set to be fully manufactured in India by December 2024. This development comes as the Kanpur factory successfully creates a unique metal that meets Russian GOST standards, which is essential for the rifle’s production.
2. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to commission the INS Tushil, a state-of-the-art stealth frigate, in Russia this December. This event marks a significant milestone in India’s naval capabilities and its ongoing defence partnership with Russia.
3. The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract for the procurement of six Air Cushion Vehicles for the Indian Coast Guard at over 387 crore rupees.
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has taken a significant step to enhance its maritime security capabilities by signing a contract worth ₹387.44 crore for the procurement of six indigenously made Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs). This contract was finalized with Chowgule & Company Pvt. Ltd., based in Goa.
4. BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited) is set to enhance India’s Main Battle Tanks by integrating the newly developed DATRAN 1500hp engines. This initiative marks a significant advancement in India’s defence capabilities, aligning with the country’s push for self-reliance in military technology.
