12 National Voters Day

1. India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has crossed 162.77 crore on Monday. Health Ministry said.

2. The 12th National Voters’ Day will be celebrated today. The theme for this year is ‘Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative’. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu will be the Chief Guest for the event. However, due to his inability to attend the function in person, his message will be virtually delivered during the function.

3. Every year on 25 January National Voter’s Day or Rashtriya Matdata Diwas is celebrated to encourage young voters to take part in the political process. In 2011 the first time this day was celebrated to mark Election Commission’s Foundation Day.

4. On the occasion of National Girl Child Day on Monday, PM Modi interacted with Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awardees. He asked them to follow the ideals of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

5. PM Modi said programmes and initiatives like Startup India, StandUp India, Digital India and Make in India are all led by young people and will take the country to newer heights. He said, all feel proud when the youth of country is innovating and taking the nation forward. Interacting with the recipients of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar.

6. Nominations for 3rd Phase of Assembly polls in UP and Single-Phase Elections in Punjab to begin from Tuesday.

7. PM Modi will interact will BJP workers all over the country today at 11 AM through NaMo App. On 18th of this month, Mr Modi had interacted with BJP workers in Varanasi.

8. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is testing a system to facilitate Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-based digital payments without active internet connection.

9. Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday launched the revamped Central Government Health Scheme CGHS website and mobile app. website is
www.cghs.gov.in. The website also has link to beneficiary login for accessing various online facilities such as tracking of Medical Claims, grievances, status of CGHS card, downloading of CGHS card, accessing history of medicines and online appointment system.

10. Andhra Pradesh: government calls staff unions for talks on payscales: It began efforts to resolve issues related to the 11th PRC by inviting leaders of government employee associations and unions for fresh consultations.

11. HIMACHAL : Two teenage boys, stuck in heavy snowfall with two others during trekking to the Rising Star hilltop in the Dhauladhar mountain range in Himachal’s Kangra district, died of hypothermia. The police identified the deceased as Rohit, 16, a resident of Slate Godown village near Dharamsala and Monty, 18, of Nurpur village in the district. Two others who are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

12. MAHARASHTRA : Schools resumed physical sessions for classes 1 to 12 in Maharashtra on Monday.

13. PUNJAB: and Haryana HC dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Monday. Majithia, who has been booked in a drugs case by Punjab Police, was previously granted interim protection from arrest by High Court.

14. Punjab Assembly elections: BJP, Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) on Monday announced their seat sharing formula.

15. Telangana: CM K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday expressed his strong protest against the proposed amendments to the All India Services (AIS) (Cadre) Rules, 1954 that will allow the Centre to pick AIS officers without the consent of the state governments.

16.UTTARA KHAND: Congress on Monday released its second list of 11 candidates for the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly polls. Former CM Harish Rawat will contest from Ramnagar seat and Anukriti Gusain Rawat, the daughter-in-law of expelled Uttarakhand BJP Minister Harak Singh Rawat, will contest from Lansdowne. On Sunday, the party had released its first list of 53 candidates for the elections.

FINANCE:
17. The COVID-19 protocol will be in place at the Parliament House during the *BUDGET SESSION* .

Rajya Sabha proceedings will begin from 10 AM to 3 PM and Lok Sabha from 4 PM to 9 PM. During sittings of Lok Sabha from 31st January to 11th February, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Chambers and their galleries will be used for sitting of Members in the wake of the pandemic.

18. Air India is likely to be handed over to the Tata group by the end of this week, After a competitive bidding process, the government had on October 8 last year sold Air India to Talace Private Limited — a subsidiary of the Tata group’s holding company — for Rs 18,000 crore.

ENTERTAINMENT:
19. Actress Urvashi Rautela has been named as the ambassador for the ‘Mission Paani Jal Shakti’, a water conservation campaign. “In India and around the world, millions are navigating the COVID-19 pandemic with the added challenge of living without access to safe water,” she said. Urvashi also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving her the opportunity.

20. Film ‘Jai Bhim’, starring Suriya, has won three awards at the 9th Noida International Film Festival. It won the Best Film award along with Best Actor and Best Actress awards for Suriya and Lijomol Jose, respectively.

21. Rajubhai Shah, who financed films like ‘Sarkar’, ‘Bol Bachchan’, ‘Golmaal’ and ‘Jab We Met’, passed away after suffering a heart attack on Saturday night while he was on a holiday in Gulmarg. His last rites took place at Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai’s Vile Parle. He was the owner of TA Shah Group of Companies.

22. Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani-starrer ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ has not been postponed. “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 to release on its earlier announced date [25 March 2022]

DEFENCE:
23. Republic Day Parade: Troops in marching contingents reduced from 144 to 96 in view of Covid-19, Maj Gen Alok Kacker said.

There will be a total of 16 marching contingents in the Parade. Six from the Army, one each from Navy and Air Force, four Central Armed Police Forces, one from Delhi Police, two from National Cadet Corps and one National Service Scheme, NSS. 21 Tableaux from different Sates, Union Territories, Ministries and Departments will participate in the Republic Day Parade.

24. The Republic Day Parade will be held at Rajpath in the National Capital on 26th January. This year the Parade will begin at 10.30 AM instead of scheduled time of 10 AM. The parade which starts from Raisina hills and goes through Rajpath, India Gate to Red Fort would now only go up to the National Stadium while tableaux of States, Different Ministries, and Departments will proceed to Red Fort.

25. Kamov choppers, submarine torpedoes among deals defence ministry will review this week. Ministry is reviewing all procurement under the ‘Buy (Global)’ category, under which equipment is bought directly from foreign manufacturers, amid govt’s ‘Atmanirbhar’ push.

26. India could soon place a repeat order for the K-9 Vajra 155mm/52 calibre tracked self-propelled howitzers. The order, worth over Rs 10,000 crore, will be the largest given to an Indian firm — L&T in this case — in the defence sector.

27. Border Security Force (BSF) troops have been on high alert along the Jammu International Border in view of Republic Day and to deal with any attempt of anti-national elements from across the border. A statement from BSF Jammu said that joint patrolling is also being carried out with the Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
