Manipur: School torched, 1 shot in fresh violence; classroom return chances bleak. The Manipur government’s decision to reopen schools encountered significant challenges, especially in violence-affected districts. The latest incident occurred on Saturday evening when miscreants set fire to a school building near the Churachandpur and Bishnupur border. This incident coincided with reports of gunfights between two groups in the region.

1. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday arrested IAS officer Ranu Sahu in Chhattisgarh under provisions of the prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) following searches conducted on her premises on Friday as part of its probe into the state’s coal levy graft case.
2. Pakistani citizen Seema Haider, who entered India in May without a visa, has filed a mercy petition with President Droupadi Murmu requesting that she, along with her four children, be allowed to stay at her “matrimonial home” in Greater Noida.
3. Anju, a 35-year-old Indian woman, has arrived in Pakistan to meet her Facebook love named Nasr Ullah in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Anju, who was born in UP and lives in Rajasthan, met Nasr Ullah online four years ago. Anju told Pakistani media she can’t live without Nasr Ullah. As per her visa, she’s allowed to stay in Pakistan for 30 days.
4. Forty-one Meitei people have reached Assam from Mizoram after an ex-militants’ group asked the community to leave the state following the viral video of two women being paraded naked in Manipur.

1. Bihar: Four-year-old boy, rescued from deep borewell after 6 hours operation by a team of NDRF and SDRF in Kul village of Nalanda district.
2. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Sunday called off its search-and-rescue operation in the landslide hit Raigad district of Maharashtra. State minister Uday Samant said the decision was taken after consultation with the district administration and other concerned authorities and local residents. At least 27 people died in the incident while 57 are still missing, reports said.

1. HDFC Bank expects 17-18% loan growth during the current financial year as there is enough credit demand. Effective July 1, the parent mortgage firm HDFC Ltd merged with its subsidiary HDFC Bank making it the second biggest lender after State Bank of India.
2. Top global private equity firm Bain Capital has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire 90% of Adani Capital and Adani Housing.
3. The government has decided to exempt mergers of regional rural banks (RRBs) ordered by it from the requirement of clearance from the Competition Commission of India.
4. ICRA has reconsidered its assessment for non-bank finance companies (NBFCs), forecasting growth in the unsecured retail loans market. The agency anticipates growth of between 18% to 20%, up from its previous estimation of between 12% to 14%, with the rise driven by increased demand for loans such as personal and consumption credits, microfinance loans and small enterprise loans.
5. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently cancelled the licence of Uttar Pradesh-based United India Co-operative Bank Limited, citing lack of adequate capital and earning prospects.
6. State Bank of India (SBI) will set up a trustee company, which will be its wholly-owned subsidiary, for managing the Corporate Debt Market Development Fund (CDMDF). SBI Funds Management Ltd has been identified as the investment manager cum sponsor of the fund.
7. Financial services secretary Vivek Joshi has urged public sector banks to achieve the targets allocated to them under various schemes for financial inclusion for the current financial year at the earliest.
During a review meeting with the top management of state-owned banks and Nabard chairman, Joshi exhorted the banks to expeditiously clear the sanction and disbursement pendency of applications under PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme.
8. Adani Group’s greenfield copper refinery in Gujarat’s Mundra will become operational next year in March.

1. Minister of Union Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur introduced the Cinematograph Amendment Bill 2023 in Rajya Sabha which aims to tackle film piracy.
The new bill has also provisions to classify films on the basis of age group, instead of the current practice of ‘U’, ‘A’ or ‘UA’. The amendment seek to add new classification- “UA-7+”, UA-13+” and “UA-16+” in place of 12 years.
This new bill seeks to bring uniformity in categorization of films and content across platforms. According to bill, who are responsible for piracy and the punishment include three years of imprisonment and Rs.10 lakh penalty.
2. Commissioner Uday Mahurkar, on behalf of Save Culture Save India Foundation, has written to filmmaker Christopher Nolan, urging him to remove ‘Oppenheimer’ sex scene featuring Bhagavad Gita. Mahurkar stated that the scene makes a “scathing” attack on Hinduism.
3. The ‘Barbie’ movie becomes this year’s biggest debut in US & Canada, earns $155 million.
4. Iranian authorities have banned a film festival that put out a poster featuring an actress who was not wearing a hijab. The poster, reportedly released by the Iranian Short Film Association (ISFA), featured Iranian actress Susan Taslimi in the film ‘Death of Yazdgerd’.

1. 4. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has asked the French firm Dassault, the original manufacturer of the fighter, to integrate indigenous weapons on Rafale fighter jets. The move could be a big success for ‘Make in India’ in defence and also open the global market for Indian weapons.
5. Pakistan Navy has formally integrated PNS Tippu Sultan (FF-263) and PNS Shah Jahan (FFG-264) into its Surface Fleet.
