1. Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman directed the banking sector in Nagaland to conduct outreach programmes in all districts starting from the 1st of September and enrol as many eligible farmers for Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme by November 30.

2. The indigenously-developed ship-borne weapon system, Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM), was successfully flight tested by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy off the tu Chandipur coast in Odisha on 23 Aug.

3. The defence ministry on Tuesday terminated the services of three Indian Air Force (IAF) officers for the accidental firing of a BrahMos missile which landed in Pakistan on March 9 this year.

Just 7 minutes after launch, the unarmed BrahMos missile had landed 124km inside Pakistan. Though the missile crashed harmlessly near Mian Chunnu town in Pakistan, the incident reinforced the urgent need for the two countries to put in place robust nuclear confidence-building and risk-reduction measures given that the flight-times of missiles are so short.
