Manipur ripple in Mizoram? Outfit asks Meiteis to leave; govt assures safety amid tension

Mizoram Home Commissioner and Secretary H Lalengmawia assured that the state government is continuously striving to ensure the safety of Meitei people, while the police have also been alerted due to the escalating tension in the neighboring state.

“Representatives of the state government also held a meeting with a Metei body, assuring them of their safety,” he said.

12. After Rajendra Singh Gudha was allegedly removed from the Rajasthan cabinet on Friday over his statement regarding women’s safety in the state, CM Ashok Gehlot called it an “internal issue of the party”. Gehlot said the issue would be dealt with internally.

13. Noor Shekhawat has become the first transgender person in Rajasthan to be issued a birth certificate in which the gender is recorded as transgender. In her old birth certificate, her gender was marked as male. The 31-year-old said she now wants to get the gender changed in her class 10 and 12 marksheets as well.

14. The Rajasthan Assembly passed ‘The Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Bill, 2023,’ aiming to provide a guarantee of wages or pension to the entire adult population in the state.

15. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has become the second-longest-serving CM in the country, holding the post for 23 years and 138 days since March 5, 2000. He replaced West Bengal ex-CM Jyoti Basu. Sikkim ex-CM Pawan Kumar Chamling remains the longest-serving CM as he served the state for over 24 years from December 12, 1994 to May 27, 2019.

1. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted raids at the residential premises of the absconding accused in the Hizbul Mujahideen terror conspiracy case.

2. Amid growing protests against the sexual assault of two women in Manipur, the police arrested the fifth accused and intensified efforts to apprehend the 11 others identified in a viral video.

3. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma raised questions about the timing of the release of the viral video, which surfaced just before the start of Parliament’s Monsoon Session. He suggested that politics might be involved in the leak.

4. People speaking on Manipur must speak on West Bengal & should also condemn the incidents in WB: BJP National General Secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam said.

5. The Manipur government appealed to the people to not believe in rumours. It issued a “rumour-free” helpline number (9233522822) for people to inform about the circulation of “unfounded” videos. The government has also urged people to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to police stations.

6. Delhi prison authorities have suspended four officials of Tihar Jail in connection with the physical appearance of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief and terror-funding case convict Yasin Malik in Supreme Court, citing serious security lapse on the part of some officials.

7. Former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain underwent a spinal surgery at Apollo Hospital in Delhi. Jain, who was arrested in a money laundering case, is currently out on interim bail.

8. Reacting to the video showing two women being paraded naked in Manipur, Social activist Anna Hazare called it a “blot on humanity”. Anna Hazare further said that the culprits should be given death penalty.

1. Two Amarnath pilgrims, who hailed from Rajasthan, died, taking the death toll during this year’s pilgrimage in Jammu and Kashmir to 36, officials said on Saturday. The two pilgrims have been identified as 60-year-old Phateh Lal Manaria and 60-year-old Mangi Lal.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has granted L&T Construction a contract for the Mumbai Ahmedabad high-speed rail project (MAHSR) worth more than Rs 7,000 crore.The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. gave the company a contract to build the 135.45 km section of the MAHSR-C3 package.

1. Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly removed abusive word ‘b******d’ and replaced it with ‘behan di’ in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’. The Censor Board also replaced ‘bra’ with ‘item’ in the lingerie shop scene in the film, reports said. An entire dialogue about West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee was asked to be deleted.

2. Pakistan has temporarily banned ‘Barbie’ over LGBTQ+ content. Islamabad said the “objectionable content” must be removed from the film for the ban to be lifted. The Punjab Censor Board plans to release the modified version in Pakistani cinemas at a later undisclosed date.

1. Missile boat Kirpan decommissioned from Indian Navy, handed over to Vietnam as gift.

India gifted its in-service missile corvette INS Kirpan to Vietnam in reflection of growing bilateral strategic and defence partnership amid common concerns over China’s increasingly aggressive behaviour in the South China Sea. This is the first time that India handed over a fully operational corvette to any friendly foreign country.

2. Defence Research and Development Organisation is working to conduct the first underwater trial of its fuel cell-based Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system in Mumbai. The niche technology is being developed that will enhance the submerged endurance of the submarine severalfold.

3. Two helicopters of the Indian Air Force reached to carry out rescue work in Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district where 45 people are stranded due to the flood situation in the area.

4. Recovery trial operations of the Gaganyaan mission entered into the second phase with the commencement of harbour trials on July 20, 2023, at the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam. ISRO and Indian Navy jointly carried out the trials with the ship identified for the recovery operations during the first Development Mission of the Test Vehicle.

5. ISRO demonstrated its commitment to fostering the space ecosystem in India by enabling a successful rocket-engine test conducted by Skyroot, a Hyderabad-based space start-up, at ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) Mahendragiri. The test took place in the Liquid Thruster Test Facility (LTTF) in IPRC

6. Strengthening the capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces, Mahindra company has secured a massive order of 3320 units of their rugged Scorpio SUV. The first batch of deliveries has already commenced.

7. Rakesh Pal has been appointed as the 25th Director General (DG) of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). He is an alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy and joined the Indian Coast Guard in January 1989.

8. Admiral Lisa Franchetti of US NAVY has become first woman in history to serve as the Chief of Naval Operations and member of Joint Chiefs of Staff.

She was commissioned in 1985 and has served as the commander of US Naval Forces Korea. She is the second woman ever to achieve the rank of four-star admiral in the United States Navy.
