1. The first National Space Day celebrations will be held today across the country. ISRO to celebrate National Space Day on 23 August, marking first anniversary of Chandrayaan-3’s moon landing. The landing site was named as ‘Shiv Shakti’ point (Statio Shiv Shakti) and August 23 was declared as the “National Space Day”.

2. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu conferred the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2024 to renowned and distinguished scientists at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
(a) Professor Govindarajan Padmanabhan was given the Vigyan Ratna 2024 award by the President.
(b) Dr. Anandharamakrishnan received Vigyan Shri award in the field of Agricultural Science.
(c) Dr. Avesh Kumar Tyagi from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai was conferred upon Vigyan Shri award in the field of Atomic Energy.
(d) Prof. Jayant Bhalchandra Udgaonkar from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune was awarded Vigyan Shri award in Biological Sciences.
3. The first meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 was held in New Delhi. The 31 member committee was headed by BJP MP Jagdambika Pal. The Committee has been tasked by the Lok Sabha to scrutinise the bill. During the meeting, officials from the Ministry of Minority Affairs and Ministry of Law and Justice briefed the Members about the various amendments proposed in the draft law.
4. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare organized a national Conference in New Delhi with states to discuss improvement in crop production statistics. The Ministry in statement said the conference underscored the need for integrating cutting-edge technologies like remote sensing, geospatial analysis and artificial intelligence to enhance the accuracy and reliability of crop production data.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Andhrapradesh, actor turned Politician, Pawan Kalyan has said that in a unique event, gram sabhas will be held in 13,326 gram panchayats across the state on August 23. The people of each gram panchayat would take decisions on development works that are to be undertaken through the national employment guarantee scheme in their village.

1. The Bombay High Court today criticized the Maharashtra Police for lapses in investigating the sexual abuse case of two 4-year-old girls at a school in Badlapur, Thane. The Court took suo motu cognizance of the matter based on newspapers report.
2. Resident doctors’ associations in various states protesting against rape and murder incident in a Kolkata hospital, call off strikes.
A special court in Kolkata on Thursday allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a polygraph test on former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and four other doctors in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee at the hospital.
3. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has asked the social media platforms operating in India to comply with a recent Supreme Court order related to the identity of the deceased in RG Kar Medical College incident. The Supreme Court in its order has directed that all references to the name of the deceased, along with photographs and video clips depicting the deceased, be promptly removed from all social media platforms and electronic media.
4. Delhi Police’s Special Cell busted an Al-Qaeda inspired module by detaining six individuals from Bhiwadi in Rajasthan, who were undergoing weapon training. Apart from this, around eight suspects have been detained from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
5. An ASI survey of the Gyanvapi mosque wazukhana is not permissible as there is a Supreme Court order that the area should be preserved, the mosque management committee has told the Allahabad high court.
The Anjuman Intezamia Committee Thursday filed a counter-affidavit before the Allahabad HC in the matter seeking a survey of the wazukhana (or ablution area) by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
6. The government has banned 156 widely sold fixed-dose combination (FDC) drugs including antibacterial medicines used for fever, cold, allergies and pain, saying that they are ‘likely to involve risk to human beings.

As deadlock continued on reopening of the Shambhu border where farmers have been camping since February, the Supreme Court on Thursday asked the governments of Punjab and Haryana to hold further meetings with protesting farmers to persuade them to remove their tractors and trolleys to allow the passage of ambulances, senior citizens, women, students, essential services and commuters.

1. At least 7 people lost their lives, and many others were injured as a vehicle met with an accident in the Durbuk subdivision of Leh Ladakh. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Dubuk Mor yesterday morning.
2. At least 22 people died and two others went missing in Tripura due to incessant rainfall in the past few days and landslides, officials said.
As many as 65,400 people have taken shelter at 450 relief camps in the state as their houses were damaged due to the downpour.

1. PhonePe on 22 August, announced the launch of Credit Line on UPI on its platform. Consumers who avail credit lines from their banks can now link these credit lines to UPI on PhonePe and seamlessly make merchant payments.

1. The official letters and communications between the Army Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence confirm that the Yudh Samman Yojana is a real proposal currently under consideration. A proposal for grant of one-time payment of Rs 15 lakh under “Yudh Samman Yojana” is under consideration with Dept of Ex Serviceman Welfare (DESW).

2. Final Testing Phase for ASTRA MK-2 BVRAAM Missile, to be integrated on Rafale Fighter Jets : The Astra MK-2 has undergone a series of rigorous tests, including captive trials, separation tests, unguided dual-pulse motor tests at various ranges, and guidance tests. These tests have validated the missile’s basic functions, paving the way for large-scale trials against target drones.
3. The Indian Army has initiated a significant procurement process to acquire next-generation artillery guns valued at approximately ₹7,000 crore. This initiative aims to enhance the army’s artillery capabilities by introducing lighter and more powerful towed gun systems, TATA has developed a 155/52mm Mounted Gun System based on its 8X8 All Terrain Vehicle.
