12. Madhya Pradesh is becoming the first State in India to send elderly people on pilgrimage by air under the Mukhyamantri Teerthdarshan Yojana. The first batch of pilgrims have taken off from the Bhopal airport to visit Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. The batch of 32 pilgrims have left for Prayagraj by an Indigo flight.

13. Manipur extends ban on mobile/broadband internet till May 26 after reports of arson. The NH-2 has still remained blocked. The ban was first clamped on May 3 when the ethnic violence broke out in Churachandpur district and spilled over to several other districts. At least 73 persons have died and over 35,0000 other displaced.

14. The Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) meeting under India’s G20 Presidency is underway in Mumbai. The main focus of this meeting will be on steering the discussions around Communique with a more outcome driven approach.

CRIME REPORT/MISHAPS

1. The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday raided the houses of five local terrorists who are currently operating from across the border and making desperate attempts to revive militancy in Doda district.

2. A Joint team of the National Investigation Agency, NIA and Jharkhand Police has arrested Dinesh Gope, the mastermind of the Naxalite organisation People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) from Nepal

Former Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) chief Sameer Wankhede was questioned for more than five hours on the second day in a row on Sunday by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the alleged Rs 25 crore bribe demand from actor Shah Rukh Khan for not implicating his son Aryan in the Cordelia cruise ‘drug bust’ case.

4. WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh, accused of sexually harassing women wrestlers, on Sunday said, “I’m ready to get my narco test, polygraph test or lie detector done.” Singh, however, added that he’ll undergo the test only if wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia also undergo these tests

5. In Karnataka Bengaluru witnessed heavy rain on Sunday resulting in the death of a 22-year-old woman after her car got stuck in the KR underpass.

The car in which she was traveling submerged in neck deep water. The victim was travelling from Vijayawada to the city along with her family members. Due to heavy downpour in the city the underpass was inundated with rain water. The family members were rescued by the fire and emergency department personnel.

6. Four persons were killed and many were injured as thunderstorms accompanied by gale winds lashed Andhra Pradesh since Saturday night.

1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the transfer of Rs 87,416 crore surplus to the government for the financial year 2022-23. This amount is nearly three times higher than the previous year’s transfer of Rs 30,307 crore.

2. The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) is set to go public with an initial public offering (IPO) in the near future. To oversee this significant event, the government has appointed IDBI Capital, BOB Capital, and SBI Capital as the lead managers for the IPO. The IPO is expected to consist of a 10% stake sale by the government and a 15% fresh equity issuance by IREDA.

3. The Advance Authorization Scheme (AAS) or Advance License Scheme, introduced by the Government of India under the Foreign Trade Policy 2015-2020. This scheme aims to promote the competitiveness of Indian products in the global market by providing duty exemptions on imported raw materials required for the manufacture of export products.

4. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said on Sunday that people can exchange ten notes of two thousand rupees at a time from the bank without obtaining any requisition slip. RBI further clarified, the people will also not be required to submit their identity proof at the time of exchange for upto a limit of twenty thousand rupees.

1. Actress Sara Ali Khan on Sunday visited Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan ahead of the release of her film ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’.

2. Drishyam’, a Malayalam crime thriller film directed by Jeethu Joseph, is set to get a remake in South Korea. This will be the second time that it will be remade in an international language, after ‘Sheep Without a Shepherd’ which was a Chinese remake of the film. ‘Drishyam’ has also been remade in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi.

3. Indian author Ruskin Bond wrote a book titled “The Golden Years: The Many Joys of Living a Good Long Life”. The Golden Years book is published by HarperCollins India and released on 19 May 2023, Bond’s 89th birthday. “The Golden Years” focuses on Bond’s experiences during the 60s, 70s and 80s.
